SPACIOUS, COMFORTABLE HOME ON THE CABOT TRAIL

4 of 5
The Butterworths personally greeted us upon our arrival and welcomed us with a bottle of wine and a jar of homemade marmalade. We enjoyed staying in a well maintained, clean home with much history. The placement of the home on Cabot Trail enabled us to view the night sky from the deck and see the bay in the distance. Roger found the time to hike a portion of his property with us and he and Sandra were very accommodating. The kitchen is adequately stocked for meal preparation, but we enjoyed the Clucking Hen just a short walk down the road. Most of our time was spent exploring and hiking Cape Breton National Park. We found we were early in the season for the music festivals, but upon Sandra’s suggestion we did take Donelda’s Puffin Tour to the Bird Islands and highly recommend it.

FABULOUS VIEW

5 of 5
We started our 17 days in the Maritimes with a week at this fabulous waterfront home. The views are amazing and coffee on the lovely deck started each day with us wondering which ship would we watch today? The Queen Mary 2 and all the Canadian Navy Ships were interesting as well as the Wednesday evening sailing regatta. We travelled about the area including Peggy's Cove and many other really neat fishing Coves and Harbours. The Halifax Waterfront Boardwalk was a hit on many days for lunch or dinner of whatever fresh catch of the day was being offered. Salty's and The BicycleThief were 2 favourites. Our party consisted of 2 grandparents, 2 parents and a 10 month old baby. The house was very comfy for all our needs and even on the rainy days we could enjoy all the harbour had to show through the many floor to ceiling windows of the kitchen and living areas. The area was so quiet and peaceful it was hard to believe we were so close to Halifax. Sigmund the Resident Seagull was an instant hit. We would love to return to Halifax some day and would choose to stay here again in a heartbeat.

BETTER THAN YOU COULD IMAGINE!

5 of 5
I cannot recommend this house highly enough. The pictures-which are beautiful-do not do it justice. You are perched on the top of a stunning bay with daily visits from curious squirrels, blue herons, and one night a seal who sat on an outcropping of rock while the sun went down. All rooms have beautiful views, either of the sea or the groves of pines that line both sides of the space, and the private beach is a quick two-minute walk down a wooden stairway. Peggy's Cove is right down the road (with great ice cream--Rhubarb Restaurant is also worth a try), and historic Lunenburg and Mahone Bay are an hour away. Further still, but worth the trek, was Shelburne and Birchtown-the last the site of the Black Loyalist colony that came to Halifax after the American Revolution. If you make it to Shelburne, don't miss the Charlotte Lane Cafe....one of the best meals we had in Canada. But you can also just spend days relaxing and looking out over the water. Every day brings a different vista. We'll be back. Often. It was beautiful in the sun, in the fog, even in blustery wind with the cozy wood-burn fireplace crackling inside.
