Breathtaking Cape Breton

5 of 5
The Potter's Cottage in the Margaree Valley on Cape Breton Island is a wonderful respite on a magical isle. The cottage is immaculate with a well equipped kitchen, comfy beds, down comforters and located on a beautiful piece of property. After a day taking in the incredible scenery, coming "home" to the cottage is a relaxing end to the day. The cottage is just off the Cabot Trail and provides easy access for driving to all points of interest. Stewart provides excellent suggestions for daily itineraries. The Co-op and Petrol station are close by as well as the Dancing Goat for delicious breakfast, lunch and bakery items. Bell is the lovely co-owner and an extremely talented potter and artist. Her detailed black and white nature drawings enhance her graceful pottery. Bell and Stewart are gracious hosts and make you want to return.

I loved Cape Breton and I loved this house!

5 of 5
I spent a week here with my 20 year old son. We both loved the house and loved Cape Breton. This home is a perfect home base for exploring the western side of Cape Breton as well as Cape Breton Highlands Park, which is a ten minute drive from the house. I would highly recommend spending 2-3 days in the park. Have your camera ready when you drive through the park as the vistas from the main road are stunning. My son and I also did several of the recommended hikes in CBHP including the popular Skyline trail. The town of Chet camp (just a short drive north from the house) is home to a large French Acadian community and is worth a visit. (One local told me that 90-95% of the town’s residents speak French). Make sure to visit Baddeck which is about 1 ¼ hour drive from the Cheticamp area. Baddeck is home to the Alexander Graham Bell Museum and is a neat little town located on the shores of beautiful Bras D’Or Lake. The house was perfect for us. There is a kitchen and dining area downstairs, with a cozy adjoining sitting area. The sitting area had a couch, a couple of comfortable chairs, a TV and a good collection of movie CDs. Upstairs were three small bedrooms. Everything was as-advertised. Everything worked, everything was clean and neat. The view from outside the house is absolutely incredible. The house is located on a small bluff so when you go onto the front porch you get an unimpeded panoramic view of the ocean as well as views of the beautiful cliffs and beach to the south. One morning I also saw both a red fox and a bald eagle from the front porch while enjoying my morning caffeine. The home’s owner, Paul, was a pleasure to deal with. He answered all of my emails promptly and comprehensively and I generally found him to be very responsive to questions and concerns. I would very much like to return to Cape Breton in the next year and would like to stay at Paul’s home again. I would encourage any other potential visitors to Cape Breton to consider staying here as well.

Comfortable, cozy vacation home!

5 of 5
We spent a wonderful week on Cape Breton in this lovely home in August. Roger & Sandra were perfect hosts - ready to help if needed, but also gave us plenty of space. They left a bottle of wine and a jar of delicious home made jelly for us, and greeted us personally shortly after our arrival. The home is very clean, is beautifully decorated, and is also very cozy and comfortable. There is a lovely view of St. Ann's Bay from the deck, and it is in a very peaceful and quiet setting. Our kids had fun exploring the walking trails around the property, and had a ball playing in the yard, too. The kitchen is well stocked, with all the equipment you need to prepare a meal if you choose, but The Clucking Hen, located right up the street, has delicious food if you'd rather eat out. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and hope to return one day!
