Magical Cape Breton

5 of 5
We spent 3 nights at Fieldstone Garden on the Cabot Trail, which was private & peaceful. The apartment was clean, comfortable & perfect for our needs.Marion & John were welcoming hosts; we were greeted by Marion who showed us around & made suggestions for our trip, and while Marion was away, John was available & helpful during our stay & we enjoyed talking to him about their life in Cape Breton. The daily visits by the humming birds at the window of the dining table was joyful. Cape Breton is beautiful and everything you hear about the people is true. Highlights included driving the Cabot Trail, which was magical, a local ceilidh in a church, which was intimate & delightful, and dinner at Cabot Shores Bistro where the owners opened up especially for us because we were vegetarian. Our trip was far too short & we would love to return. We highly recommend staying at Feildstone Garden & visiting Cape Breton. Thank you Marion & John for providing us with a home away from home! FIRST CLASS/WORLD CLASS...SUPERB

5 of 5
This place…this Kildare…is nestled in the quiet countryside of Baddeck Nova Scotia. My husband and I stayed here for a week this August, 2014. We have stayed at a number of hotels, resorts and rentals over the years and many of them have been absolutely fabulous. But the bar has just been raised on each and every detailed level when we discovered and stayed at Kildare. Meeting a renters needs is one thing but exceeding all expectations is another. The home and the water views of the Bras d’Or Lakes are staggeringly beautiful. The home, inside and out was meticulously clean and stocked with everything you could need…and then some and some more after that (an absolute first for me as I’m very fussy) ☺. Not to be too repetitive of former reviewers, but it must be noted that everything in the description is even better in real time. The owner is ultra-professional and her attention and follow-up to all of our queries made us feel quite confident we had selected the perfect place. What we had this week is a wonderfully cared-for, world-class, historical home that provided private and peaceful views of Bienn Bhreagh, on the Bras d’Or Lakes. There were no unexpected annoyances or disappointments. Kildare is dripping in all the charm and character that even the most discerning renter would be extremely pleased with. For us (it was only my husband & I), it was a much-needed break from our busy lives. And nursing a back injury, I was quite content to plant myself on the covered veranda, drinking cup after cup of tea for the entire week…just watching the water…just being. The peerless views from inside and out are truly magical. No one moniker can capture its essence or beauty. But it’s certainly made an impression on me. Simply put, Kildare is mystical, a place of peace, calm…a good place to heal. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your home. It has captivated us and we will want to come back, Thanks again, Terri & Graham.

Outstanding Cottage in Beautiful Location

5 of 5
I have found that 5 stars are too often given so that the rating starts to lose its meaning. This truly is a 5 star property. It is beautifully designed and built with pine- planked inside walls that lend such charm and interest. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, a rarity and yet so helpful with a larger family or couples traveling together. There's plenty of space for privacy and also for interaction. The furniture is very nice and actually comfortable...as is the King bed (didn't try the others.) We ate all breakfasts and dinners there so really appreciated the high-end appliances (especially the Jenn-Aire duel fuel stove/oven) and the gas grill. And then there's the magnificent view from the house, from the porch, and from the firepit with chairs area right by the water. And the sound of the waves to lull you to sleep. And then there's the porch. since the photos on this site were taken, beautiful, high quality couch, chairs and tables are now present...we practically lived on that porch. This truly is one listing that is even better then its photos and write-up. As for the practical matters, Tonia was so easy to work with and very responsive. She provides lots of information about what to do, best places to eat, shop, etc. ahead of time and kindly and quickly answered some additional questions we thought of. The house was immaculate and the linens were of excellent quality. Nothing was missing. And our refundable security deposit check was waiting for us when we got home.
