Breathtaking Cape Breton

5 of 5
The Potter's Cottage in the Margaree Valley on Cape Breton Island is a wonderful respite on a magical isle. The cottage is immaculate with a well equipped kitchen, comfy beds, down comforters and located on a beautiful piece of property. After a day taking in the incredible scenery, coming "home" to the cottage is a relaxing end to the day. The cottage is just off the Cabot Trail and provides easy access for driving to all points of interest. Stewart provides excellent suggestions for daily itineraries. The Co-op and Petrol station are close by as well as the Dancing Goat for delicious breakfast, lunch and bakery items. Bell is the lovely co-owner and an extremely talented potter and artist. Her detailed black and white nature drawings enhance her graceful pottery. Bell and Stewart are gracious hosts and make you want to return.

The most perfect honeymoon

5 of 5
My husband and I stumbled upon this cottage on homeaway.com while it was still being built. Immediately, we emailed Stewart and chose to book it for our 2 week honeymoon...before we even chose our wedding date! There was something that drew us to this place and it couldn't have been more true when we finally stepped foot here in person some months later. We immediately fell in love, not only with the cottage, but the entire area. The cottage: Even up to our very last night, we would arrive back to the cottage after a day at the beach or exploring the nearby sights, and just say, "Wow". The view never gets old and it is truly spectacular. The cottage itself is also bright, clean, and spacious for it's intimate coziness. Absolutely perfect for a couple, although there is a small bedroom with a twin bed that would accommodate a child perfectly. It is also secluded high up on the hill allowing you to truly "get away". The deck was one of our favorite parts, enjoying a glass of wine or a beer and watching the sunsets never got old. There is also a grill and you couldn't ask for a more beautiful spot to barbecue! The area: In 2 weeks, we never felt like we didn't have anything to do. This place offers the perfect blend of relaxation and action. The Chimney Corner beach, which is about 1/2 a mile down the road, is one of the prettiest beaches we have ever seen. We could have been perfectly happy spending every day there! We were also so surprised to find how warm the water is! On days we didn't go to the beach we explored the Cabot Trail, went whale watching, saw giant moose, fly-fished on the Margaree River, and attended a fiddle concert and square dance, plus lots more! Not to mention all the delicious places to eat out and the breathtaking views that surround the entire area. Each view is more amazing than the next! The hosts: Stewart and Bell are two of the most welcoming and kind people you could ever meet. They are so much more than hosts, they are true ambassadors of Cape Breton. On our first night Stewart gave us a very detailed account of everything to do around. We took all his advice and couldn't have been happier with everything! Both he and Bell made us feel so comfortable and truly helped make our experience up here so positive. In summary, this cottage and Cape Breton are worth the trek. We had an incredible vacation here and are already planning our return trip here next summer :)
