                Charming, clean and well-maintained

                5 of 5
We rented the house for 1 week in August. We were 2 couples traveling to Cape Breton for the first time. The house was very charming, clean and comfortable. The kitchen was fully equipped to prepare meals. The owner’s Roger and Sandra were very helpful and generous throughout our stay. They greeted us with a bottle of wine and some homemade jam. The house is directly located off of Cabot Trail, a short walk to the beach and approximately an hour from to the Highlands Park. If you enjoy hiking their property offers several hours of great bush trails right out the back door. Roger suggested a ceilidh at a tea house near by. They happen twice a week. We attended one, it was fantastic Celtic music performed by local artists (fiddlers). Lobster season ended in July. We wanted fresh lobsters so we bought some from a local restaurant in Baddeck. If you are driving to Cape Breton, we recommend bringing a cooler and doing groceries before getting to Cape Breton. We did our groceries in Antigonish, it’s cheaper than in Cape Breton. We highly recommend this rental and would definitely go back!

                Like coming home

                5 of 5
Immediately on arriving, my friend and I felt right at home. We avoided a B&B as did not want to feel like we were someone's visitors or limited to where we could wander. Like Goldilocks, we came in and tried out all the beds, choosing the beds according to our preferences. There was a firm bed, soft bed and medium bed. Most times we sat like families do at the kitchen table, other times upstairs in the sitting area looking out the picture window at the mountains. No sooner had we settled in than A moose came up to the edge of the yard to graze on something delectable. A resident chipmunk came up on the porch in the mornings for breakfast. We were charmed. The cut logs and kindling were welcomed on one evening that turned cool after we had gotten wet on a hike. Maggie's felt like coming home. Uli is full of information and stories. His enthusiasm for the house and area are infectious. We were glad to meet his family and share a wonderful morning. There were so many special touches like fresh flowers in the house. The people in the area are friendly, inviting and happy to answer questions. I was warned a week would not be enough time, and it wasn't. A few details: we had a good supply of dishes, pans , cups etc that we needed and baked several meals on the gas stove. Even herbs were provided. We appreciated the handmade soaps, laundry soap, dishwasher soap, Kleenex and toilet paper that kept us from having to haul a lot from the grocery store. The local water has a high mineral content. But Uli and Cathy provide the gallon jugs of bottled water. The coffee pot makes good coffee! It is an older home with its own creaks, but part of what makes it feel like a home. Uli really wanted us to find something to suggest they do to improve the experience, but we didn't need or want anything different. We did suggest a more complete list of things provided in the house like the laundry soap, But if you have a question just email them. Enjoy the natural wonders found here. Don't be so busy going to all the sites on the map to miss the beauty right here at Maggie's.

                An Awesome Week

                5 of 5
We rented the Matheson house so our family could spend quality time together. Driving up the driveway and before entering the house we were already impressed by the yard and the view. Upon entering the house we were overwhelmed by the coziness and cleanliness. The three bedrooms were spacious and well maintained with snugly quilts and there was no shortage of fans for the warm nights. Everything you need to cook and bake like pots and pans and utensils is available. It was super great having a washer and dryer at our disposal too. We enjoyed swimming and fishing at all the local swimming spots. Little river beach was awesome and also Indian brook and barrachois river were fun. Simply Pizza and the Clucking Hen are two eateries down the street and they are both a must try. The owner was very accommodating and quick to reply to all of our inquiries. We hope to make this an annual family event. Overall it exceeded our expectations.
