Wonderful retreat in a unique part of Cape Breton!

                            5 of 5
Bay St. Lawrence is a bit off the Cabot Trail and a worthwhile detour... all of Cape North is spectacular - beaches, vistas, whale-watching, a reprieve from the bugs, beautiful sunsets. The cottage was better than we expected - quite spacious, adequately appointed, clean and comfortable. But the inside pales in comparison to the exterior -- this cabin has THE BEST view in BSL. The entire bay is at your feet. We saw pods of pilot whales from the deck (with the cabin binoculars)! Surrounded by wild blueberries and wild flowers. There's no wifi, or cable, but you'll never be bored - it's a true getaway. Easy access to the co-op grocery/liquor store, the Hut is down the road for hotdogs, and the docks are nearby for crab and lobster in the summer. There is no laundry at the cabin (or the local community center), so pack for your stay or be prepared to travel farther. Our favorite beach was Cabot Landing. And Meat Cove is not to be missed.

                            Potter's Cottage

                            5 of 5
The cottage is gorgeous. I wouldn't mind taking it home with me. It was fully furnished and very comfortable. The condition of the cottage was immaculate. There was a problem with the DVD player, but the owner fixed it immediately. The TV had great reception. Our cell phones did not work there because of the cottage's location. That caused us some difficulty, but the owner allowed us to use the house phone. While there are some restaurants close by, you have to travel a bit to get to others. The kitchen in the cottage is fully furnished with everything you can think of. There is a washer and dryer in the back of the cottage fully furnished with detergent. We had some freaky weather while we were there. In one instance it was lightly raining on the side of the house, but no rain in the back. Would I go back? Yes, I would. It's very quiet and peaceful. We actually did nothing one day except stay in the cottage. I'm looking forward to staying there again in the future.

                            Lovely Place on Cape Breton

                            5 of 5
Field Stone Garden is perfect for one person or a couple. Right on the Cabot Trail about a 45-minute drive from Cape Breton NP, it's set well back from the road amidst an expansive garden that's occupied by several hummingbirds who regularly visit the feeder right outside the first floor window. The kitchenette and BBQ allow for preparation of basic meals. The friendly hosts, John and Marion, keep the place very clean and are extremely helpful (if desired) with everything from grocery store recommendations en route from Halifax to a glass of wine upon arrival and directions to the best local swimming holes. All of those things made for a great stay.
