Reviewed alot of VRBO rentals before selecting "Maggie's". Loved the charming old farmhouse in the pictures which looked like it "belonged", and was not disappointed when I saw it in person. The pictures do it justice, beautiful shady yard, open deck, comfortable, lived-in, interior. On arrival our hosts had a homemade blueberry (from local wild blueberries!) waiting on us, and a handwritten note on the back of a piece of dried birch bark bidding us welcome to Cape Breton. (Disclaimer is that you have to make sure you arrive in peak blueberry season if you want the berry pie!)
We covered alot of territory on our week long trip, mostly on Cape Breton, and Maggie's is a good location from which to venture out in all directions; close to the entrance of Cape Breton Highlands National Park and the gorgeous hikes and views along the Cabot Trail, and an easy day trip to the Fortress at Louisburg to name a few . At the end of each full day we looked forward to returning to the relaxing surroundings at Maggie's.
The house and property are clean and well maintained. The hosts could not be more generous and welcoming, and full of information about the area. A couple of the local delicacies we enjoyed (aside from the blueberry pie!) was the seafood chower at Neil's Chowder House in Neil's Cove, and the every present Scotsburn icecream, lots of flavors to choose from!
Would definitely recommend a trip to Cape Breton, and a welcoming stay at Maggie's!
