Magical Cape Breton

5 of 5
We spent 3 nights at Fieldstone Garden on the Cabot Trail, which was private & peaceful. The apartment was clean, comfortable & perfect for our needs.Marion & John were welcoming hosts; we were greeted by Marion who showed us around & made suggestions for our trip, and while Marion was away, John was available & helpful during our stay & we enjoyed talking to him about their life in Cape Breton. The daily visits by the humming birds at the window of the dining table was joyful. Cape Breton is beautiful and everything you hear about the people is true. Highlights included driving the Cabot Trail, which was magical, a local ceilidh in a church, which was intimate & delightful, and dinner at Cabot Shores Bistro where the owners opened up especially for us because we were vegetarian. Our trip was far too short & we would love to return. We highly recommend staying at Feildstone Garden & visiting Cape Breton. Thank you Marion & John for providing us with a home away from home! Good view from barebones but functional cottage

4 of 5
My husband and I stayed in BayCroft Cottage for a week. The photos on VRBO are mostly accurate (Since they were taken, a hot tub replaced two of the Adirondack chairs on the deck. And the dining table we had seated 4.). The view of the water is good and as pictured. This cottage was plenty roomy for us. Sleep quality was excellent as the location is very quiet and the mattress on the larger bed is very good. The shower was nice, too. There is nothing fancy about this cottage at all. Everything is clean and functional, but totally low-end in terms of cost, e.g. Linoleum, countertops, refrigerator, microwave. In fact the microwave is so low-end that it is only 550 watts, which makes it only marginally useful. The one big deficit in this cottage is the lack of decent pots and pans and other kitchen supplies. There were two frying pans -- one very small and one that was truly wrecked and terminally greasy. Only two real mugs. No pot holders. Really, I rated this property as a "4" rather than a "5" based primarily on the furnishing of the kitchen. Beware if it is your intention to cook real meals in this kitchen. You should also know that the lake access at the bottom of the driveway (and across the road) does not include a dock. You simply have to scramble over some small boulders to get to the water.

Back to Nature

5 of 5
This lovely cottage is quaint and rustic. But has everything you would want. The location was prefect for us. We hiked the National Park every day. Lucked out the weather was great. Ate seafood almost every day. Even got some live Lobsters. The kitchen is well equipped. My husband loved the real charcoal BBQ. Wished we booked 2 weeks instead of 1, it was that nice. Clean and very cozy. Also great for our other hobbies, wild mushroom hunting and geocaching. Thanks Stewart and Bell for amazing time. Ken and Stephanie
