FIRST CLASS/WORLD CLASS...SUPERB

5 of 5
This place…this Kildare…is nestled in the quiet countryside of Baddeck Nova Scotia. My husband and I stayed here for a week this August, 2014. We have stayed at a number of hotels, resorts and rentals over the years and many of them have been absolutely fabulous. But the bar has just been raised on each and every detailed level when we discovered and stayed at Kildare. Meeting a renters needs is one thing but exceeding all expectations is another. The home and the water views of the Bras d’Or Lakes are staggeringly beautiful. The home, inside and out was meticulously clean and stocked with everything you could need…and then some and some more after that (an absolute first for me as I’m very fussy) ☺. Not to be too repetitive of former reviewers, but it must be noted that everything in the description is even better in real time. The owner is ultra-professional and her attention and follow-up to all of our queries made us feel quite confident we had selected the perfect place. What we had this week is a wonderfully cared-for, world-class, historical home that provided private and peaceful views of Bienn Bhreagh, on the Bras d’Or Lakes. There were no unexpected annoyances or disappointments. Kildare is dripping in all the charm and character that even the most discerning renter would be extremely pleased with. For us (it was only my husband & I), it was a much-needed break from our busy lives. And nursing a back injury, I was quite content to plant myself on the covered veranda, drinking cup after cup of tea for the entire week…just watching the water…just being. The peerless views from inside and out are truly magical. No one moniker can capture its essence or beauty. But it’s certainly made an impression on me. Simply put, Kildare is mystical, a place of peace, calm…a good place to heal. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your home. It has captivated us and we will want to come back, Thanks again, Terri & Graham.

Good view from barebones but functional cottage

4 of 5
My husband and I stayed in BayCroft Cottage for a week. The photos on VRBO are mostly accurate (Since they were taken, a hot tub replaced two of the Adirondack chairs on the deck. And the dining table we had seated 4.). The view of the water is good and as pictured. This cottage was plenty roomy for us. Sleep quality was excellent as the location is very quiet and the mattress on the larger bed is very good. The shower was nice, too. There is nothing fancy about this cottage at all. Everything is clean and functional, but totally low-end in terms of cost, e.g. Linoleum, countertops, refrigerator, microwave. In fact the microwave is so low-end that it is only 550 watts, which makes it only marginally useful. The one big deficit in this cottage is the lack of decent pots and pans and other kitchen supplies. There were two frying pans -- one very small and one that was truly wrecked and terminally greasy. Only two real mugs. No pot holders. Really, I rated this property as a "4" rather than a "5" based primarily on the furnishing of the kitchen. Beware if it is your intention to cook real meals in this kitchen. You should also know that the lake access at the bottom of the driveway (and across the road) does not include a dock. You simply have to scramble over some small boulders to get to the water.

Peaceful Location, Amazing Views, stunning beach

5 of 5
Our family had the best week in Cape Cottage last summer of our whole road trip from Bangor to Cape Breton. The location is truly magical, amazing views of the ocean and wildlife passing by. We saw a shoal of dolphins easily 50+ one morning and bald eagles overhead.Cape Cottage is very private surrounded by woodland and a beautiful meadow which the children adored. The cottage itself is immaculate, modern with rustic touches, perfect veranda for relaxing and star gazing in the evenings. It is safe for the children to roam freely in the cottage's surroundings. Ours spent hours catching grasshoppers in the meadow in front of the cottage. Stewart was the perfect host - we had lots of questions as it was our first time in Cape Breton, he provided excellent advice and tips for making the most of our week- he couldn't have been more helpful. There is so much to do and see nearby, and of course the most stunning beach- quiet, perfect for our small children and situated a few minutes down from the cottage. This place is a Gem. The combination of the gorgeous cottage, the local landscape and proximity to the beach plus hosts that go out of their way to make your stay memorable is unsurpassable in our opinion. We are extremely fortunate to be returning for another stay this summer and have been counting the days!! Thank you Stewart and Bell for making our holiday last year.
