Perfect house for a large group

5 of 5
My extended family spent a week here to celebrate my parents' 60th wedding anniversary. There were 13 of us and the house could not have been better! Thad was very accomodating and welcoming. Any questions we had, he answered right away. There are plenty of spaces to be together but also areas to be apart if you need some quiet time. The view is gorgeous and so peaceful. On the top level, there is a large great room with 2 dining areas which were plenty large enough for the 13 of us to eat together and even converse back and forth between the 2 tables when needed. The master suite is large and beautiful. We used the study as a room for the 2 little ones. It has a sofa bed which the 4 year old slept on and the 2 year old slept in her portacrib. Across the hall from the study is a bedroom with a king sized bed and a bathroom. The master is also on this level. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and pots and pans. We cooked almost every meal and appreciated the great kitchen. That would be the only drawback if you do not want to cook. The location is gorgeous but somewhat secluded and is a 20 - 30 minute drive from Waynesville. We all took turns cooking so it was not an issue for us. There is also a small kitchen downstairs with another full refrigerator, dishwasher, and 2 wine fridges. We were able to accommodate all of the food and drinks for 13 people in the available fridge space without any real issues. There is a large porch and a screened porch also on the main level which give you wonderful views of the mountains and the cows. The little ones especially enjoyed seeing all of the cows. We even had a double rainbow one afternoon! On the lower level, there are 3 more bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. A large game room with a poker table and a pool table. The media room is very comfortable and we watched movies in there a couple of nights. Outside on the lower level are more covered porches, a gas grill, and a fire place with nice wooden chairs to pull up to the fireplace. In the garage was a pingpong table and above the garage is another bedroom and bathroom. We also had no difficulty in parking 5 cars and getting them in and out. We would definitely love to come and stay here again. It was a great location to spend time as a family.

Very wonderful experience

Our stay at your house was a wonderful experience and we could not have asked for better accommodations. You described everything perfectly and answered any questions we had promptly. We definitely would chose to stay in your house again in the future and recommend it for anyone. We had family members meet for a wedding reception in the Raleigh area and it was perfect.

Beautiful house...Fantastic location!!!

This was our first time renting Gem of the Ocean & we all thoroughly enjoyed this house. The location to the beach is awesome, especially for us who couldn't afford oceanfront. The house is nicely layed out with plenty of room for all. The pool area and new bar were phenomenal & we spent many evenings out there. The big hammock on the side deck was very peaceful for an afternoon nap. Having the basketball court and swings were an added bonus for the kids. Matthew was very responsive and easy to work with from the beginning to the end of our rental. If I had to pick a con (there are very few), I would say the inside furniture could use some replacement (I.e. couches are worn & not firm as you sink down when sitting on them) and the kitchen accessories need to be added too as there are no baking pans (I.e. no muffin or cake pans) and more lounge chairs for the decks and pool area would be nice, too. I would definitely rent with Matthew again. GEM OF THE OCEAN was as promised, plus some!
