Peaceful Abode

4 of 5
While the husband is away, the wife and kids will play! My six children and I took advantage of some "mother/children alone time" while my husband was away on business and escaped the suburbs of Atlanta to this little cabin in the woods. My mother actually joined us as well, and there was plenty of room for the 8 of us with beds to spare. The owner of the cabin is very kind and thoughtful, and we appreciated that he was able to book the home for us within just a few hours notice. He was very prompt in responding to our request and pleasant on the phone. Upon arrival, everything was clean and orderly. (If you plan to stay in the cooler months, I'd suggest asking if the heat can be turned on before you arrive. It was very cold when we got there late in the evening, and it took several hours to warm up. The heat works well, though, once it gets going.) We found the house to be quite cozy and comfortable - as a cabin should be! The artistic touches throughout the home are charming - including the handmade kitchen table and chairs. The kitchen was quite workable. (We couldn't get the can opener to work; you might pack one just in case it hasn't been replaced yet.) The oven, stove, fridge, and dishwasher all worked properly. We very much enjoyed the fresh, mountain-cold water from the tap! The children spent time roaming the property as children love to do. At night we were able to watch movies using the DVD player (There are a few movies, but throw some of your own in your bag.) Of course, take some games. I noticed someone made a negative comment regarding the washer/dryer. Granted the combo unit is an older model, but it worked fine. I washed a few loads of our clothes plus the towels we used with no trouble. If you're looking for somewhere a bit remote, yet close to nice trails and beautiful waterfalls, and a short-ride into the Highlands for ice-cream, this cabin will do the trick. It's not fancy, but it's comfy and a great place for a getaway.
