Secluded & Private

4 of 5
I have rented this property 2 or 3 times already and it has served our family's purposes. If you are seeking a place off the main roads and a lot of distance between any neighbors for privacy and getting back to a true natural surrounding, this is it ! It is near the end of a gravel road into a very old "Appalachian family owned" valley. Being a small business owner (remodeling contractor) it gives me a way to get away from constant customer business demands 7 days a week on me and relax, and is only a 1 1/2 hours from my home to reach. If you make it to the top rear corner of the property, the old barbed wire fence property line has some massive (approx. 200 year old) oak trees as old settlers actually used to mark their boundaries that way; and you can see the ridgelines of the mountains bordering Tennessee and North Carolina going into Virginia too. And if you are up there during a weather change or fog, it can become a very spooky experience having fog roll up and over the ridgetops and through those old massive oak trees. I personally have enjoyed it as a way to get out into the woods with my sons and an area that is not commercially developed in anyway. A rustic experience overall.

Great summer getaway

4 of 5
We went up with our grandson for the weekend and then spent 2 more days alone. The house was as advertised but you can not describe the peaceful feeling of being so close to the creek. My grandson wore me out climbing the rocks and jumping in the water. I highly recommend the stay, the down side is going back to work and not constantly thinking why you left so soon.

Wonderful rental with great view from the balcony!

5 of 5
My husband and I had a lovely week renting the upper floor of this unit. The pictures in the listing are very accurate for this unit. What they do not show, however, is the wonderful view from the balcony and from the picture windows in the living room! We thoroughly enjoyed the mountain views from this unit; they are superb and restful---not another cabin in sight from the balcony! I could hardly restrain myself from taking picture after picture from the balcony, trying to catch the different moods of the clouds and the time of day. We were even graced with an exquisite rainbow one evening! We also enjoyed watching the birds at the feeder on the porch (plus the occasional squirrel who managed to find a way to steal birdseed) and the hummingbirds at the hummingbird feeder. This unit was very clean and comfortable, and Gail was extremely responsive and attentive. Even thought the weather was rainy on some of our days, we were able to enjoy trips to Mount Mitchell (highest peak east of the Mississippi), Beech Mountain (highest town east of the Rocky Mountains, with a fun store, Fred's Mercantile, which stocks a little bit of everything!), Little Switzerland (delicious lunch at the Little Switzerland cafe, and fun browsing at the Books and Beans 3-story bookstore), and several craft studios/galleries. We also enjoyed drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway and drives around Burnsville and surrounding areas looking for quilt blocks on some of the nine "quilt trails" in the area (see http://www.quilttrailswnc.org/ for information). We look forward to renting this unit again sometime and/or renting the larger 4 bedroom unit for a family reunion. Please do be aware that these units are up a winding, gravel mountain road. If your car sits lower to the ground than the average car you may have a bit of trouble. but our "ordinary" car did just fine with careful driving.
