A cosy niche in the mountains

4 of 5
We loved the cabin and the location by the stream. The log fire was a huge plus as it was very cold when we arrived. The cabin had all the bedding you could possibly need and an ample supply of towels and linens. My only complaint was that the 2 basement bedrooms were extremely cold, even though there were portable heaters. The rest of the cabin was very cosy . We enjoyed a wonderful home cooked Thanksgiving meal at a small restaurant in Burnsville called the Regal Beagle. We also had terrific hot sandwiches and the best pumpkin bread ever from Ye Old country Amish store in Burnsville. Great places to visit were Roan mountain. (tons of snow). Another highlight of the cabin were the wild deer in the woods around the property. Definitely would recommend but if you sleep in the basement bedrooms bundle up.

Perfect for our fall foliage getaway on the Blue Ridge Parkway

5 of 5
Steve, Thank you! My husband and daughter and I had such a great time spending a week at your Stone House in Little Switzerland during foliage season. It was great to discover Little Switzerland, with café, post office, a small general store, and other amenities right at an exit on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The location on McKinney Mine Rd is a lovely country setting for the house, back from the country road but convenient to it - just what you'd expect from the posted picture of the house. The 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms are generous and furnished with plenty of bureaus and shelving. Eat-in kitchen and the family room addition are both spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed all our breakfasts and a few dinners at the house, and made our lunches every day to set out on adventures. We appreciated your detailed write-up of things to do and see in the area. And the Stone House was a wonderfully central location. We traveled in all directions: to Asheville on 2 different days, including one day at The Biltmore, and to Blowing Rock, Mt Mitchell, Grandfather Mountain, Black Mountain, Crabtree Falls, and more during our 6-day trip. Grocery shopping in Spruce Pine was close enough, we enjoyed the drive, and also ate a delicious dinner for our family birthdays at Spruce Pine's Knife and Fork. On another evening we discovered that the Mexican restaurant, also in "old town" Spruce Pine along the river, had delicious food and very generous portions. Having also hit a few micro-breweries in the area, I think all we missed was a night out for the great local country music you described. Writing from our home in Oregon, we can't be sure when we'll have the chance to come visit again, but would love to. Our daughter lives in Durham, so she, and we, will enjoy another visit when we can.

Fabulous get away with a view

5 of 5
My girlfriends and I had a wonderful weekend getaway here! It was just the right size and location. I loved that is was pretty close to Boone, Blowing Rock & Grandfather Mt, yet far enough to be away and up high with a view. It's in a neighborhood which, and I normally try to find more secluded cabins, but the view more than made up for it, and the neighborhood is so quiet it didn't bother us. I think if we stayed any longer we would have run out of TP, and there was only enough dish washing detergent for one cycle, so my only suggestion would be to have a little more supplies on hand. (Or maybe we just didn't look hard enough?) Overall, it was a lovely place, everything else was in good supply, the whole house was quite modern and in good condition, and it was pretty easy to find in the dark. The whole experience from booking to getting our deposit back was easy and drama free! Thanks Mark & Michelle!
