Our Favorite Mountain Getaway by far!

5 of 5
Our family stayed here over the July 4th weekend and loved every minute of it! The owner was very helpful, kind and responsive. The home is very clean and has everything you could possibly need. The beds and the bedding were the absolute best - very comfortable (excellent rest!) and well decorated! We woke up the first morning and enjoyed sitting on the patio watching the hummingbirds and listening to the creek. Our three children (ages 11, 9 and 5) had a blast playing in the creek and exploring. The fishing right across the street was fun for all of us - such beautiful sounds, incredible waterfalls, and peaceful surroundings. I loved the flowers, butterflies, picking blueberries - everything about this home makes us want to come back - real soon! It was a great time to get away and unwind as a family. We did not want to leave and we can't wait to stay again!

Wonderful week of relaxation in cozy cabin... :-)

4 of 5
The Raccoon Holler cabin was a very cozy and relaxing retreat! My husband and I enjoyed our stay there very much. The cabin was clean and furnished with "home-y" extras (family photos, throws for curling up on the couch, games, etc.). We enjoyed sitting on the front porch, watching the ducks in the pond across the road. We had a good meal at Mountain Aire Seafood and Steaks down the road as well as at Smoky Mountain Barbecue a few miles away in West Jefferson. We recommend visiting the Churches of the Frescoes (West Jefferson and Glendale Springs), the Ashe County Cheese Factory and Store (West Jefferson), and Cascade Falls/E. B. Jeffress Park (mile marker 272 off Blue Ridge Parkway). There are lots of other attractions and things to do in the area. Just see Kathleen in the Visitors Center in downtown West Jefferson. She was very helpful! :-)

Happy Little Cottage

5 of 5
LOVED IT! My husband & I had a wonderful time at this happy little cottage. Very peaceful and relaxing. The only sounds we could hear were the birds singing and the trickle of the creek. It was an excellent place to get away from everything. We had no wireless service or cell phone service which provided us the opportunity to disconnect from the world and reconnect with each other. We were happy to have access to a land line phone in the home just in case of an emergency & we were given the number prior to our stay so I was able to make sure my children had it before leaving town. The cottage is decorated in a very sweet, simplistic manner which makes for a nice cozy feeling. The cottage was EXTREMELY clean which is very important to me. When I sat down on the bed & could smell the clean scent of the freshly laundered bedding I was thrilled. The kitchen was well stocked with items to cook with. My husband and I enjoy cooking together on our trips as opposed to eating out, so having things we needed to complete our meals was a plus. We have learned to tote with us certain items, but we were pleasantly surprised that those little things like salt and pepper were right there ready for us to use. The road getting to the cabin is very curvy and unpaved. We decided to drive my Honda Pilot based on another review. I am glad we did. My pilot is not a 4 Wheel drive, but it still helped us over some of the bumpy spots. A lower vehicle might have a little difficulty on the road, but should still be able to make it under normal conditions. The outside shower is wonderful. I didn't think I would like that much but it was actually really pleasant. There is a shelf for toiletries and hooks for towels and robes. We took extra blankets with us and used them at night to lay down in the front yard. We were able to look up through the trees and see the stars. It was beautiful and peaceful. The pictures posted, accurately show off the quaint little home. I was very pleased with every aspect of our stay. I have bragged on our stay to everyone at work and on Facebook. Kim told me in an email that it was their happy place and I am pleased to say that my husband and I have named it as our happy place too. I hated to leave but I hope that we can return again very soon. I highly recommend this place if you need to truly get away. It is far enough away but not so far that you can't go out for a drive and find something fun to do. Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, etc.
