Pumpkintown Perfect

4 of 5
Wow – Jackson County is a gem – even in mid-November. This was our 1st visit to the area. Working with the owner , Mike, for reservation and payments was easy – good communication. We arrived after dark on Thurs. night, good directions and easy to find. Drive is steep and a compact/mid-size may have difficulty. We had a small SUV – No problem. The view in the morning was fantastic! The views and property are BEAUTIFUL. It is quite and secluded and the 4 wheeler a real plus for exploring the many trails. The house is clean and comfortable but somewhat dated. The front porch wrought iron tables/chairs are pretty rusted but usable. If you are looking for peace and quiet and can do without ALL the comforts of home, this is a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Basic kitchen items available but not many pots/pans in order to cook anything but simple meals. There were only two of us - so cooking for 5 would be tough. Bathroom needs some work – wallpaper peeling. We travel quite a bit and have used VRBO instead of hotels and I believe the $125/day is a little high based on the condition of the house ($80-100). With that said about the property, Murphy stuck Friday morning – half way through the 1st shower the water stopped. The Property Manager Troy was easy to get in touch with and he responded to our concerns. He checked the water source, but by evening he wasn’t able to get it fixed. He contacted Mike and we were able to relocate to another one of Mike’s properties about 30 minutes away. Great response and concern about our visit from Troy! See our review of that property (Search Home Away.com for property # 3599396) Overall I think this property and our 1 day experience here was not a 2 Star, but not quite a 3 Star. The owner and property manager are 4+ Stars! Thanks, Brian & Tracie Delaney

Absolutley beautiful house and grounds with endless opportunities nearby. We had a wonderful week hiking, rafting, visiting the nearby national forests and falls and exploring this breathtaking part of the country. The house had recently been updated and redecorated and is lovely! We loved the broad porches and rocking chairs, all the linens and beds were luxurious, the kitchen is extremely well equipped and a great place for everyone to gather for meals together. The views and stargazing were awesome. There are lots of quaint dining and antiquing / shopping options. There is plenty to do nearby, but sure you make time to just sit on the beautiful porches and decks and watch the sunsets and sunrises. The peace and beauty is restorative. We highly recommend a visit to this gorgeous part of the country and especially to the very unique and elegant Steeplechase.

Perfect NC mountain getaway

5 of 5
My husband and I have not had so much fun in a long time. We felt like kids on the motor cart with the branches hitting the sides, it was like being on a safari in the mountains and sitting by the falls it felt like our own private paradise. The modular/cabin was nothing spectacular but was comfortable, we arrived to a nice welcome letter, and free (very cute) T shirts. We sat on the side deck in the evenings with a glass of wine watching the lit up creek, we grilled steaks, we roasted marshmellows, and enjoyed the veiws. Thank You it's what we needed
