We've been renting houses at OBX for over a decade, and have learned that people have different styles of enjoying a beach vacation. For us, first is location, location, location. We want to feel the beach, not just see it. At Nirvana, you step off the deck stairs into the sand, and at high tide you’re just a few paces from submerging in the ocean. Picture rolling out of bed, pulling on your trunks, and in seconds, diving in for a cool swim, followed by a nice hot outdoor shower! As a surf nut, albeit a much older and less capable one, I was thrilled to find the house faced a sandbar offshore that created surfable waves daily, and also a following of surfers -- great amusement watching from the decks.
Although there are other houses close on each side, Nirvana is a few feet forward of them which makes them not feel imposing when on the decks, and the closeness to the high tide mark pretty much guarantees your beach space right out front. The deck and the living space seating was more than adequate and comfortable for the four of us and the hot tub was well maintained. We cooked all our meals and found the kitchen quite practical for that -- new stone counters were appreciated. The house is not pretentious, but as comfortable as can be, and who could ask for more (well granted, some folks have other standards and a need for elegance). But for me, Nirvana is a fine beach house, with responsive owners who obviously have focused on providing what’s important. And nothing could be more elegant than the Atlantic which is there for you, up close and personal all the time. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Nirvana.
