Great for its price

4 of 5
First, let's start with the road that takes up to the house. As expected, it is a bumpy, gravel road, so if you plan to go, an SUV or pickup truck is highly advised. Once you get up, there is no service on the mobile phones, which is good. It is good to be away from social media communication and actually communicating with your friends. The house's electricity was from solar panels charged batteries, and there is plenty of electricity. It is spacious and cosy. The theatre is a very nice feature. Also, a large porch makes a nice place to stay at night. Hiking trails will take most of your day time if you like hiking. Overall, for its price, it is a very nice place to spend a holiday or a weekend. Difficult to find a similar house with the same price.

Nature Lover's Retreat

5 of 5
This retreat is described perfectly. The owner was quick to respond to any questions and to give helpful suggestions. Our group consisted of 3 adults, 4 kids and 2 dogs. We all stayed upstairs. It is very roomy. There are tons of towels (do bring your own wash clothes, only found one upstairs). I was pleasantly surprised that there was soap at each sink. The bathrooms have small travel size shampoo/conditioners. There are also plenty of paper products. The owners thought of everything. Our group loved it! We also enjoyed the fishing. In front of the home is catch and release, but you can go up the street to catch keepers. We enjoyed a trout dinner our last night there. We visited the waterfall down the road, gem mined in Little Switzerland and visited Mt. Mitchell. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Wonderful rental with great view from the balcony!

5 of 5
My husband and I had a lovely week renting the upper floor of this unit. The pictures in the listing are very accurate for this unit. What they do not show, however, is the wonderful view from the balcony and from the picture windows in the living room! We thoroughly enjoyed the mountain views from this unit; they are superb and restful---not another cabin in sight from the balcony! I could hardly restrain myself from taking picture after picture from the balcony, trying to catch the different moods of the clouds and the time of day. We were even graced with an exquisite rainbow one evening! We also enjoyed watching the birds at the feeder on the porch (plus the occasional squirrel who managed to find a way to steal birdseed) and the hummingbirds at the hummingbird feeder. This unit was very clean and comfortable, and Gail was extremely responsive and attentive. Even thought the weather was rainy on some of our days, we were able to enjoy trips to Mount Mitchell (highest peak east of the Mississippi), Beech Mountain (highest town east of the Rocky Mountains, with a fun store, Fred's Mercantile, which stocks a little bit of everything!), Little Switzerland (delicious lunch at the Little Switzerland cafe, and fun browsing at the Books and Beans 3-story bookstore), and several craft studios/galleries. We also enjoyed drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway and drives around Burnsville and surrounding areas looking for quilt blocks on some of the nine "quilt trails" in the area (see http://www.quilttrailswnc.org/ for information). We look forward to renting this unit again sometime and/or renting the larger 4 bedroom unit for a family reunion. Please do be aware that these units are up a winding, gravel mountain road. If your car sits lower to the ground than the average car you may have a bit of trouble. but our "ordinary" car did just fine with careful driving.
