Everything We Expected and More...

5 of 5
Cottage is comfortable and well appointed with impressive long range mountain views of the Blue Ridge, and beautiful sunsets that can be seen from both floors. All details and amenities are true to the cottage's listing description. We found our stay to be upscale vacationing on the Blue Ridge. Teenagers loved the new game room and having the lower floor to themselves, so we parents found the quiet peaceful time refreshing. Surprised by the wildlife along the drive between the community front gate and the cottage. Spotted wild turkeys, small rabbits, a raccoon, a black bear down the ridge near an overlook, and over a dozen deer, including two bucks with full antlers, and a doe and fawn. Weather was exceptional. On the first day, we explored the Blue Ridge Mountain Club trail to the Blue Hole. The trail head is a very short walking distance from the cottage. Visited Linville Falls, Linville Caverns, and Moses Cone Memorial Park, and the small towns of Valle Crusis and Banner Elk. Had pleasurable dinning at The Red Onion, Bistro Roca Antler's Bar, Canyon's Restaurant, Storie Street Grill, and Froggy Rock Eatery & Pub. Our favorite was Gamekeeper's Restaurant where we celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary. We did make quite a few meals at the cottage. Kitchen is spacious and fully equipped with ample storage for guest groceries. One evening, we grilled steaks on the gas grill on the main floor deck, and watched the sunset as we had dinner alfresco. Found Produce and Provisions in Blowing Rock to carry local specialty foods. Also, liked shopping at Earth Fare in Boone. Owners communicated well with us in making reservations, and the cottage shows their attention to all the details needed to making our stay a pleasure. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to the High Country.

Family Vacation Getaway

5 of 5
We throughly enjoyed our family vacation getaway. The owner was a pleasure to work with and very helpful!! The description is accurate regarding the location, layout and amenities, although there are only showers, no bathtubs in the bathrooms. The house is a "rustic cabin in the mountains", adjacent to Wilson's creek, accessed by a long gravel road that runs along the creek. The property was clean, well-maintained and well furnished with kitchen appliances. We loved the deck, the waterfall and the swimming spot. My husband and 7-year old son even went for a short swim. My son was a bit disappointed that the water-wheel was not working, but it was completely forgotten when he realized that he could play darts and horse-shoes. There is even a tree-swing that my husband and brother-in-law both thought was great. There is plenty of room to run around, and although the steps down from the deck to the water are steep, there is a much gentler slope if you go around the house. We enjoyed hiking the trail behind the house that goes to a small waterfall and to a lookout for Grandfather Mountain. (If you are desperate for cell phone service, my husband was able to access it on the trail up near the lookout spot!) We also hiked to Betsy's Country store. The gentleman there gave us other great places nearby where we could go hiking. It was a very relaxing vacation. Thanks, Mr. Jeff!!
