Our family had the best get-away ever in this beautiful mountain home. I hesitated to submit this review in fear that this well-kept Bakersville secret would be revealed and in great demand, thus not available when our family wishes to return. Alas, the owners were so kind and easy to work with, it would be wrong of me to withhold a great review for a wonderful location and experience.
It is secluded, even though it is in a subdivision. You really feel like you are in the only house on that side of the mountain. That said, the views from the porch and balcony are so beautiful! The inside is nicely decorated and the kitchen is well-appointed. There was plenty of room for our family of 4. Did I say that the cabin is well-maintained, attractive and clean? We could tell that the owners have put a lot of thought and work in the way that it is decorated and situated.
If you like to get away from it all and be within driving distance of many great hiking spots and other mountain attractions, then this is the place for you. We had fun going to Roan Mountain, hiking some of the Appalachian Trail, visiting the Penland School of Crafts, and just exploring. It is not too far from the Blue Ridge Parkway, and a short drive to Little Switzerland, Burnsville, Spruce Pine, Mount Mitchell, the Rocks and Minerals Museum, Crabtree Falls, Linville Caverns, Blowing Rock and Boone – just to name a few. The nice thing was also that we were content to spend time with our children in and around the cabin. We brought our own groceries and cooked out on the gas grill nightly. There are grocery stores about 15 miles from the cabin, so it is best to have a list and plan ahead to take advantage of all this home has to offer as a vacation.
The owners are pleasant people very easy to work with. The only reason I would hesitate to recommend this great place is to selfishly keep it a secret.
Thanks for having us.. We look forward to returning!
