Beautiful and tranquil home in the middle of paradise!

5 of 5
My family and I just returned from our stay at Casa Roja, and loved the time we spent in this beautiful home. It's peaceful, tranquil, well-designed, and the views are stellar! We spent so much of our time on the outdoor deck by the pool and on the hammocks in the rancho, and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Fred, the owner, was great to work with -- he was responsive, informative and helpful. I highly recommend this home to travelers to Nicaragua!

The Great Escape!!

5 of 5
Our stay at Casa La Serena was a true escape and complete juxstaposition from the energy that came from SJDS. The support from Gabby, Laura and Shayla coudln't have been more helpful, from answering our pre visit questions, to taking us for a tour of San Juan, to helping us get familar with the lay of the land. If you plan on staying at Balcones for a few days be sure to stock up bc the drive back to town can take time away from your planned R&R. If you enjoy fresh seafood be sure to pick up some from fish/shrimp/lobster etc from the fish market at the pier in town. At Casa La Serena you will be immersed in the sound of slience so be prepared to slow down, shift into neutral and enjoy alot of R&R. The howler monkeys will remind every morning not to sleep in too late and that as much as you may think you are alone you aren't. There is a little establishment called Matildas on the beach near by where you can purchase some cold refreshments and a freshly prepared lunch if you need to recharge, or just enjoy sun and sand (Dont expect a 5 star restaurant, but a true Nicaraguan experience!!) If you want to spoil yourselves even more than you have up to this point ask about purchasing a day pass to Morgans Rock. They have a great restaurant, infiniti pool overlooking the ocean, we had the beach to ourselves (although most beaches in Nica are often like that) They have handfull of tours you can book so check out what they have to offer. There wasnt much to complain about, all in all you cant control the nature that will surround you on your stay but isnt that why you are booking this place?!! to immerse yourself into a suspended state of relaxtion and to be one with nature!! (don't panic the scorpions aren't lethal)....In the end enjoy relaxing in the infinti pool with a cold Tona as you watch the Sun Set over the ocean..what more can you ask for...

Dream House!

5 of 5
This house was a dream house. It was absolutely beautiful and in immaculate condition. Spotlessly clean and well-appointed. The large living room is open to the sea air so you can fully enjoy the idyllic setting, sea breeze, and incredible views. The pool is kept nice and cold, cleaned every day and is better than it looks in the photos. The rooms were lovely. We had speakers for music in the room, a surround sound in the living area (bring a cable so you can connect your music devices through the tv to enjoy music etc.) and a well-equipped kitchen to cook in or have the housekeeper Mayra cook for you (note: you will do your own grocery shopping so bring any special spices or ingredients with you; there are great little fruit and vegetable stands in town as well as a proper grocery store (Pali); meat and fish mongers (Mayra can direct you) and a great bakery - Pan de Vie. We followed the 4-wheel drive comments with interest, and here is our take: you don't need it to get up and down to the house but I would recommend it so you can have an easy time of getting to the beautiful, near-empty beaches to the north and south of SJSD, particularly the Northern beaches as you will be dealing with some precarious dirt roads and if it rains you will need that 4-wheel.
