Rustic beach accommodation, perfect for some R&R

4 of 5
Nothing fancy but everything you need. A bit of journey into SJDS for groceries and water. We would take the shuttle from the surfer beach (10 to 15 minute walk along the beach) and then a taxi back. We decided not to rent a car because the roads are pretty bad. There is a water truck and fruit truck that go by but if you're at the beach you'll miss them. Beautiful, uncrowded beach seconds from the house. A few local beach bars and eateries a short walk. Lots of Howler monkeys in the trees, they were fun to watch but did wake us up a few mornings early. If you want some peace and relaxation this is definitely a great place. The surfer beach and SJDS were busy and crowded so it was nice to be away from the hustle and bustle.

Beautiful and tranquil home in the middle of paradise!

5 of 5
My family and I just returned from our stay at Casa Roja, and loved the time we spent in this beautiful home. It's peaceful, tranquil, well-designed, and the views are stellar! We spent so much of our time on the outdoor deck by the pool and on the hammocks in the rancho, and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Fred, the owner, was great to work with -- he was responsive, informative and helpful. I highly recommend this home to travelers to Nicaragua!

Comfortable, well stocked, and charming home!

5 of 5
We had an amazing honeymoon at Casa Surfside! Janelle and Dan took GREAT care of us. The house is really well-stocked, and has everything you need to cook at home, if you want to. Dan took us by the grocery store on our way in from the airport, and we cooked several of our meals at the house. We had chicken and pork out on the grill, ate a TON of fresh fruit, and of course we drank Nica coffee every morning. TIP: always buy the milk in the box :) Each day we went down to the lodge, Los Cardones, and read books, took some amazing walks and got massages - all right on the beach. One of our highlights was releasing just-hatched sea turtles at sunset. AWESOME! We had one dinner and one breakfast there, and everything was top notch - and VERY affordable. Oh,and beers are $1.50 each. I swear we looked like a Corona commercial the whole time we were there (2 Adirondack chairs and 2 beers on the beach)! We were there in the off-season (right at the end), and so we did not get to go out fishing on the boat, however when we go back we will definitely be doing this! Apparently, you can catch up to 20 fish a day, and even run across some sailfish, and rooster fish in addition to snapper. Janelle threw in some extra special touches for our celebration. A bottle of bubbly and some local fruit nectar for "Pinosas"; a stick of butter when we ran out; a tiny birthday cake on my birthday while we were there, and a trip to visit the baby donkeys plus watch a few innings of baseball in the nearby town. *sigh* It was definitely exactly what we needed. We took the relaxing version, but there was plenty to do! Surfing, horseback riding, and day trips (to volcanoes!) were all available, we just chose to recharge. My husband is already plotting his next boy's trip to Nica!
