1 MONTH WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS

5 of 5
My family and I recently returned from a month-long stay at Casa Roja. It is as beautiful and interesting as the pictures and description state. We are a family of four with two small children and had guests join us on and off throughout our stay. I believe the house will appeal most to well traveled folks who appreciate and like being off the beaten path a bit. The five stars are given because of the lovely grounds, pool, great staff, stunning views (on clear days) and the remote wildness which appeals to me. The house does have some draw-backs and they should be noted, not to discourage visitors but to have a better idea of the pros and cons and if this is the best fit for you as a traveler. There are bugs, lots of them and this is coming from a very non-squmish women who has lived in Africa. My only advice is to get over it. You are in the jungle and this is their territory. Buy a book of native insects and let budding entomologist do their thing. There are four dogs on property, all are sweet and loving but you must like dogs to enjoy your stay here. At night when the world around you gets very dark and the chorus of wild sounds emerge I enjoyed having the dogs around. The house is a good 15 minutes from town, a car is a must and you will enjoy your stay more if you come with a bit of a food plan in mind. San Juan has lots of bars and restaurants and many have nightly specials and happy hours, early in your stay get to know the best deals and work your evening plans around them. Sanchez is a little corner store in town (two locations) and you can pick up most of your groceries there (you will pay slightly more than at the big super market, but the super market is a bit sparse). We took a few side trips and it was a real treat to pack a small overnight bag and leave the big suitcases at Casa Roja. I highly recommend Ometepe (Hotel Villa Paraiso) and Granada (La Gran Francia), 2-3 nights in each location should give you a good look around. We loved our adventure in Nica and hope to return!

AMAZING HIDEAWAY!

5 of 5
What an amazing hideaway - a truly rejuvenating experience! The home is very well appointed and had everything needed for an enjoyable week in paradise. We found everything to be in perfect order upon our arrival. The view from the home living area and patio was amazing. Sitting on the veranda and being mesmerized by the crashing waves below is the perfect start and finish to every day. We made the short walk to the beach daily and enjoyed dining at the beachside restaurant - especially enjoyed the Sunday pizza night there - absolutely memorable. Without a doubt it is the nicest beach we've encountered in all of our travels! The water was a perfect temperature and we enjoyed swimming and kayaking each day. The howler monkeys, butterflies and birds, not to mention the flowering red trees and spectacular forest growth. So many nice people staying in the resort, as well as in the village of Gigante - we truly had the time of our life and can't thank you enough! We can't wait to return. We'll definitely hope to stay at Casa Ezulwini again when we do! Thanks!!!!

A "LIFESTYLES OF THE RICH AND FAMOUS" RETREAT

5 of 5
Of all the places we looked into in the Pochomil area, this is by far the best. Ted and Carmen’s home in Pochomil is an expansive, executive-style, luxury retreat. It is extremely clean and the gardens are beautifully groomed. Their key staff (Sara and Roger) provided us with outstanding service. Instead of eating out, we went with Sara to stock up on local fruits, vegetables, and groceries. Sara cooked all our meals for us, made fresh juices, and introduced us to Nicaraguan dishes like gallo pinto, nacatamal, pico de gallo, qesillos, and other dishes. The extra cost for groceries was about $10-$15/day for the two of us. The food was plentiful, healthy, and freshly prepared for each meal. Instead of renting a car, Roger helped us hire a car and driver, and acted as our personal guide and translator – all this for about the same price or less than a rental. This meant we could go to markets, tour the country, and not worry about getting lost. Roger knows his country very well and customized a tour route for us. He came with us everywhere, explained everything, ensured we were treated respectfully, and we didn’t end up paying “gringo prices”. I can’t say enough about the beauty of the coast and the endless expanse of beach. The pictures speak for themselves. Ted and Carmen are gracious hosts who live in Nicaragua and love this county. They manage their retreat professionally, and ensure their guests’ needs are looked after. You will be in very good hands here.
