Quiet and Secluded very Near Whiteface Mountain

4 of 5
We stayed at Whitebrook from 9/14/14 to 9/20/14. The property is being renovated as you can see in some of the photo's, do not judge this gem by the outside. The part of the lodge that is finished is great. Very cozy and comfortable with a king size bed, 2 gas fireplaces, a very large bathroom with a full size jacuzzi tub and an awesome shower. It has cable TV and WiFi. If you like secluded you will like this property it cannot be seen from the road. My only negative would be there is not much area for cooking in the cabin, but the owners have a gas grill outside that you can use and a picnic table in one of the unfinished rooms just off of the bedroom so it is not a big problem, we enjoyed going to the many restaurants in the area instead of cooking. There is a small grocery store in Wilmington with some of the essentials and they make some great sandwiches. Wilmington has some good restaurants, not many, but Lake Placid is only 10 miles away with plenty of dining available, not to mention all the olympic facilities from the 1932 and 1980 olympic games. We love to hike and one of the trails for whiteface mountain is literally almost in the backyard. I have probably failed to mention something, but I would highly recommend Whitebrook if you are looking for a peaceful, serene place for a getaway. Now a word or two about the owners, Dan and Judy. From when I first rented the property until we had left Judy answered all my questions about the property and the area either by phone conversation or text. The second day we were there we had a problem with the fireplace in the bedroom. Dan tried unsuccessfully to get a contractor on short notice to fix it, so he went and got the parts and went out of his way to come and fix it himself. Both of them are very kind people and want to make your stay enjoyable If you don't hike you have to ride the gondola to the top of little whiteface mountain and drive up the road to the big mountain and see the elevator there that was built when FDR was president, it is amazing. the road was only open on weekends due to road construction, but if you are staying through a weekend you have to check it out. I gave it 4 stars because you cannot do a half otherwise I would give it 41/2. I won't give it 5 because you might think I am related to Dan and Judy, LOL. If you are going to the Wilmington/Lake Placid area do yourself a favor and rent this property. The price is excellent compared to other places in the area.

Great place to stay

This was our 3rd stay at the Bear Hollow Cottage and as always we were very satisfied. The house has everything you need, is clean and comfortable. Very good location as well. I'd recommend to enyone looking for a rental in Adirondacks. Thank you Cheryle for being so accomodating :) We will defenietely be back! Dorothy

Picture does not this home justice!!

Our family rented this house as 'home base' for our son's wedding in Lake Placid. We hosted the groomsmen & our young adult children --10 in all --- and were SO happy with this choice! The house is LOVELY and perfectly set up for entertaining. We had a choice of propane or charcoal grills, a 4-person hot tub, the sauna, a WONDERFUL fire circle, a game room, a sweet, meandering path down to Beaver Creek, acres of lawn space, an outstanding private master suite for me & hubby (complete with jacuzzi tub), miles of dirt road for running or walking -- it was just perfect! There are internet and TV, but no need to use either with so many other amenities! The one thing that was not mentioned in the description, and the reason we are seriously interested in returning, is a BUILT IN dog kennel & run!! We are VERY excited about returning to this house with our Goldens---they will love it! My son's friend summed it up perfectly when she first entered the house -- she dropped her duffle bag and said "WOW" and, with each turn she made, she repeated"WOW" -- we agree.
