Excites the spirit of adventure while soothing the senses

PERFECT RETREAT WITH THE MOST ATTENTIVE OWNER THAT WE'VE EVER STAYED. Now looking to book our return for next year. We have stayed in a lot of VRBO rentals & this by far exceeded all expectations. Exactly as described and pictured -only better. We stayed 10 days with our 9 yr old and it is the ideal Adirondack location for hiking, water activities, Lake Placid roaming and relaxing. Spacious and comfortable. I love to cook and the kitchen is so clean (the entire place is immaculate) and well stocked. And while it might be a plus at times to have a tv in the family area (our son went to bed early in the loft) honestly, we didn't miss it. We played board/card games and read on the deck and just enjoyed the peace and being removed from the craziness of everyday life. Loved the bathroom. Neighbors are set away from the house so it feels private and all you hear is the river. Our ONLY issue was that the area experienced an untypical heat wave for a couple days and it stayed in the 80s during the night so upstairs was very warm (and no screens on the doors in the master) but Johnathan is working on a plan for that. The floor fan was helpful. We easily accessed the river below by new stairs (GREAT workout!) and while the river does indeed move quickly (watch the kids) we found a little pool amongst the rocks in front of the house to wade and play. Wilmington beach is 3 min away -you could walk- with lifeguard & separate swim area & boat launch. Great fun. Endless hiking possibilities. Would suggest Catamount for the more adventurous. Our son loved it but it is a lot of scrambling at times. Great burgers & excellent service at the Black Bear in Lk Placid. Also, check out Johnathan's photography website (Iceland Photo tours). Just some amazing photos. We bought his 2015 Adirondack calendar so the memories will be present all year. We might try a winter ski stay here also as it would be another opportunity to see the Adirondacks in a different way. The locals we met in businesses & on trails were friendly and helpful. When you arrive, I would suggest reading the book that Johnathan has in the cabin of "Told Around the Campfire" part actual history, part fable - it will put you in the perfect frame of mind for your Adirondack adventure. (Loved it so much I bought my own which you can purchase at the Adirondack Loj after hiking Mt. Jo.) This was our ten year anniversary trip and we were not disappointed. Thank you, Johnathan.

Comfortable, spacious, and a great family place!

5 of 5
We had a wonderful, restful, and enjoyable stay in this cozy but spacious townhouse. Plenty of room to spread out as well as a good amount of privacy for our group of five. Good location near Whiteface Mt and Lake Placid. Absolutely beautiful surroundings. We got some good hiking in as well as spending enjoyable family time in our comfy temporary home. We would definitely come here and stay again!

VistaView is the 'real deal'...a cut above.

5 of 5
Since you have taken the effort to the explore HomeAway website, my guess is that you are a little more than particular about the places that you prefer to vacation and that you should expect to find more than just an overpriced hotel room or an embellished home bio when researching vacation homes. HomeAway, simply put, does not disappoint the distinguishing traveller and, although it is cliche’, is truly the ‘real deal’. Our family has been vacationing in the Lake Placid area for almost 20 years now and I will admit that it does take time to narrow down a short-list of gratifying vacation home stays and I have to say that VistaView rates, for me, at the pinnacle of affordable yet luxurious experiences. Of course, the experience is enhanced when the vacation homeowners are highly personable, communicative, flexible and engaged in making sure that the details of your stay are taken care of. Lynne and Robin exemplify this. They have always made us feel that ‘mi casa es su casa’ and cheerfully make sure that all of our needs are met. As for the ‘new home’, this one is unmatched if you are genuinely looking for some solice while have the ‘dream views’ that you always look for in a vacation home. In fact, all three levels of the home have views of Whiteface – the top two floors being a magnificent panorama. The home throughout, as we have come to expect from Lynne and Robin, is top-notch and meticulously decorated in authentic Adirondack detail yet far from lacking in electronic amenities. I agree with the first reviewer that VistaView features a really unique floor plan with the bedrooms on the landing level and the kitchen/living/porch areas upstairs. This may be a challenge if you are ‘stair challenged’. This, however, does provide the elevation needed for the exceptional views of Whiteface. VistaView really is a few short miles away from Lake Placid downtown life so I like to think of it as staying downtown in NYC and travelling uptown for the nightlife and entertainment…the best of both worlds! We will be undoubtedly returning to VistaView for years to come and hope y’all don’t scoop my vacation availability, LOL . This home will certainly book up fast.
