All that I had hoped for and so much more!

5 of 5
I rented the Manor House the week of my son's wedding that took place in Keuka Lake at the Esperanza Mansion. We hosted a BBQ the night before the wedding to greet our families as they arrived in from all over the country. The property easily accomodated our 30X40 ft tent and 100 guests. The event turned out to be a tremendous success! Our guests were so impressed by the spectacular view of the lake while overlooking the gorgeous property. The pictures on the website can't do justice to the lovely home. Art and Missy did an amazing job of updating the house without losing it's wonderful historic charm. In addition, they were both responsive and very accomodating to work with. If you're looking for a venue for a wedding, rehearsal, or family reunion in hopes for something unique and that will offer a lifetime of wonderful memories, the Manor House is the place to be. Hurry before the secret is out!!

Great House, Great Location

4 of 5
This was a wonderful place to stay for a week. It is accurately described as a beautifully renovated home. The house was spotless and well-maintained. It's in a great location, an easy walk to downtown Clayton, shops, restaurants, and the River. It has a lovely deck (with a bit of a view of the main channel of the River) with propane grill, and a nice kitchen. A few more comfortable outdoor chairs would be a welcome addition to the deck. When we arrived, neither the cable TV or the internet access worked. Phone calls to the rental office produced the desired results: TV was restored by the next day, and the internet service a day or so later. It was a minor annoyance, but handled well. For the weekend when we first arrived, we were 4 couples in town for a wedding, so all bedrooms were in use. On the second floor, that meant 6 people using one bathroom. Though there is plenty of unused wall space in the bathroom, there is only one towel rack, barely big enough for 2 towels, meaning everyone had to take their wet bath towels to their rooms, and there were no places to hang them in the rooms. We suggest more towel racks in the bathroom or else in the bedrooms. The other amenity that we missed was light to read by in the bedrooms (The living room could use some brighter light by the couches as well.) A high ceiling fixture in the middle of the room does not provide sufficient light for reading in bed, something my husband and I enjoy every night. We went out and purchased two flashlights to read by! The addition of towel bars in the upstairs bath and lights at either side of the beds, either wall-mounted or on a small night table (which would be a handy addition as well) would unquestionably make my rating 5-star. We found Clayton to be a charming town. We were there for a wedding on Grindstone Island, and that occupied our weekend, but Clayton is full of wonderful things that we enjoyed in the following days. Most special were the Antique Boat Museum and the Island Boat Tour around the River, stopping at Boldt Castle. Restaurants we enjoyed were Bella, the newly opened Johnston House, and The Koffee Kove for breakfast a number of times.

Mostly all positives with this house.

4 of 5
I will start with good things.... The owner cares, she is easy to communicate with, friendly and seems like a good person. And she left us Ben and Jerry ice cream for the first night!! The view was great, sits on a hill and overlooks the lake. has a couple simple chairs on front porch. On a good size lot with farms around it so no neighbors. The house is being remodeled so it is nice now but this home will be even better when they finish. Nicely decorated with plenty of curios. To many appliances and creature comforts to list them all, but some surprises were; Waffle maker, panini maker, wine opener, hair dryer, BBQ with a bag of charcoal, some coffee and 2 different types of coffee makers, turkey roaster, etc etc Xmas lights so you find the home easier at night. Home was clean with fresh linens and towels. Negatives; Garbage disposal not working and left half of sink clogged so could not be used. Talked to owner and she related it recently broke and she would be fixing it soon. The home is in farm country so we understood but we did find 2 mice and a baby frog in the living room during a week stay. Also one of the bedrooms had a few carpenter ants on the floor at night. Again didn't really bother us but I could see some people getting worked up about it. (Please note many homes in farm country will have these in summer but a couple mice traps might be a good investment.). Overall I give it 4 stars, as it is good but not exceptional. We plan on renting again next year when we visit family again.
