My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 9-day stay in this gorgeous townhouse. We love New York and had wanted to experiment with “living there” beyond our usual weekend-long hotel stays. We quickly identified the house as the most spectacular option on the upper west side, and our stay included having my best friend and her husband stay with us the first weekend, preparing a dinner party for six later in the week, and enjoying time for just the two of us.
The house was meticulously clean, smelled great, and was well-stocked when we arrived, which we appreciated very much. We currently live in a contemporary, loft-like condominium in downtown Cincinnati, so spending time in a turn-of-the-century New York townhome with gorgeous floors, woodwork, and period bathrooms, was a welcome contrast and treat. The only potential negative for some might be the verticality of the house – it is four stories, with no powder room on the main level. I welcomed the opportunity to get my steps in all throughout the day, but my husband who’s recently been through spinal surgeries didn’t find that so easy.
I recommend the house to adult groups of friends or couples, and probably families with a little older children, just because it’s such a vertical home. We thoroughly enjoyed our time as temporary UWS residents, grocery shopping, going to many nearby restaurants and identifying our favorite morning coffee shop, taking long walks in the neighborhood and Central Park, and attending performances from Elvis Costello at Carnegie Hall to The Realistic Joneses play on Broadway, to Birdland, to Bemelman’s Bar at the Carlyle for cocktail hour. I also appreciated that Pure Yoga is about a block away, and purchased a week’s pass with which I sampled four different classes. The homeowner provided a very thorough guidebook with useful information and recommendations for shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and emergencies – everything we might need. She could not have been more accommodating.
