Our stay at Bella Vista in Orwell

5 of 5
We were only able to stay 3 days, but it was a lovely 3 days of peace and quiet, kayaking and swimming on the lake right outside the back door, and hiking at the Salmon River Falls. The cabin was very comfortable, well equipped and clean and Brian was easily reached, though we had no issues, so there was no need. Perfect pick if you're looking to relax in the country!! Big :-). We will definitely be back.

Great House, Great Location

4 of 5
This was a wonderful place to stay for a week. It is accurately described as a beautifully renovated home. The house was spotless and well-maintained. It's in a great location, an easy walk to downtown Clayton, shops, restaurants, and the River. It has a lovely deck (with a bit of a view of the main channel of the River) with propane grill, and a nice kitchen. A few more comfortable outdoor chairs would be a welcome addition to the deck. When we arrived, neither the cable TV or the internet access worked. Phone calls to the rental office produced the desired results: TV was restored by the next day, and the internet service a day or so later. It was a minor annoyance, but handled well. For the weekend when we first arrived, we were 4 couples in town for a wedding, so all bedrooms were in use. On the second floor, that meant 6 people using one bathroom. Though there is plenty of unused wall space in the bathroom, there is only one towel rack, barely big enough for 2 towels, meaning everyone had to take their wet bath towels to their rooms, and there were no places to hang them in the rooms. We suggest more towel racks in the bathroom or else in the bedrooms. The other amenity that we missed was light to read by in the bedrooms (The living room could use some brighter light by the couches as well.) A high ceiling fixture in the middle of the room does not provide sufficient light for reading in bed, something my husband and I enjoy every night. We went out and purchased two flashlights to read by! The addition of towel bars in the upstairs bath and lights at either side of the beds, either wall-mounted or on a small night table (which would be a handy addition as well) would unquestionably make my rating 5-star. We found Clayton to be a charming town. We were there for a wedding on Grindstone Island, and that occupied our weekend, but Clayton is full of wonderful things that we enjoyed in the following days. Most special were the Antique Boat Museum and the Island Boat Tour around the River, stopping at Boldt Castle. Restaurants we enjoyed were Bella, the newly opened Johnston House, and The Koffee Kove for breakfast a number of times.

Great Weekend Getaway

5 of 5
If you are looking for a place that is clean, comfortable and equipped with everything you need to have a fantastic weekend at the lake then I highly recommend this lakeside property. We came with 5 adults and everyone had a blast! Brian was extremely helpful when we arrived, showing us around the property and making sure the cottage was prepared for our stay. The cottage had plenty of room for the five of us to sleep comfortably. It came equipped with a full sized refrigerator, oven/range, coffee maker, microwave and plenty of kitchen utensils for cooking & eating. The back of the place had a wonderful deck that overlooked to woods surrounding the property and had a fully stocked propene grill and patio furniture which we ate every meal at. The lake was wonderful. We had access to row boats, kayaks and a paddle boat. The lake is connected to 2 other bodies of water, each one bigger than the next. Very peaceful on the lake. The front of the cottage has a great fire pit as well. We used this every night! Not too far from this location is the Salmon River Falls, which we were told is the fifth highest waterfall in NY State! The trail was a lot of fun and very rewarding once you get to the end and near the falls. Overall we couldn't be happier with Brian and our stay at the cottage.
