Simple, Elegant Retreat With a Cozy Wood Stove!

5 of 5
Everything about this charming 2 bedroom home away from home is relaxing and inviting. It is simply, and elegantly furnished and privately tucked away on a beautiful property. So you feel easily removed from all manner of noise, audio, visual, mental. There is plenty of wildlife that makes it way through the property including deer and several varieties of birds. When my husband and our 2 year old daughter arrived we saw a flock of wild turkeys by the pond as we pulled up the driveway to the house. We immediately felt enchanted as if they had gathered there to welcome us. The house was very clean, fully furnished and stocked with sheets, towels, blankets, lots of firewood, etc. It has a complete kitchen with drip coffee maker, toaster oven and microwave. We made most of our meals in the kitchen. For a city dweller, it was so lovely to be able to cook with such open views. We also ventured out a few times to nearby Margaretville, Andes, and Big Indian for a few dinners. The owners provided a list of their favorite haunts for us to choose from. All of which proved to be delicious and charming options, particularly the Phonecia Diner which is a little farther, but worth the drive. The owners also provided a list of places for thrift shopping and antiquing, book buying, etc. Though, mostly on this trip we wanted to rest at the house, walk around the property and admire the pond. I would have to say our favorite feature of this house was the wood burning stove which keeps the house super cozy and warm. We spent many hours sitting in front of the fire reading and playing with our daughter. There is an excellent selection of novels and photography books to browse through. The only thing I would say to those traveling with small children is that the railing on the stairs is a rope railing and could be hazardous to children under 2 who aren't as stable on stairs. But if you don't have small children, its a non-issue. Overall, we were so relieved to be away from our busy lives in the city, to get lost in the beautiful mountain views and peaceful surrounds and to have all necessities provided for. We would absolutely recommend this house to friends, family and strangers alike. We look forward to going back during ski season and again in the summer for some swimming in the pond.

A Charming Oasis

5 of 5
My wife and I recently spent the weekend at Meeker Hollow for our anniversary. We couldn't have chosen a better place. When we arrived the fireplace was already stocked with wood, just waiting for a match. Outside there were two bubbling streams. We spent the night in front of the fire, and the day in the hammock by the largest pond. How relaxing! As for practicalities, we were very impressed with the kitchen. It was very well stocked, with a full spice cabinet and enough dishes and pots to make a three course meal for eight! Jill, the caretaker, made sure that we had everything we needed. The cabin itself was very clean and well maintained. As well, Kathy, the owner, was very helpful as we were planning our trip. She promptly answered out questions by phone and e-mail and provided us with easy and accurate directions to the cabin, as well as an excellent summary of the cabin's amenities. We plan to come back to the cabin over the summer, and we will definitely recommend Meeker Hollow to all our friends!
