Everything in the photos - and so much more!

5 of 5
This property is just absolutely stunning and so wonderful. My husband and I got married on Shelter Island and stayed here for 4 nights during our wedding weekend. We had countless numbers of family and friends filtering in and out throughout those days, and the size was more than accommodating. There are so many different spaces for different groups to socialize in, and we just had a blast. And nobody could get over what a beautiful property it was! It’s so well suited and fun for guests of any age, and every single room inside (there are many!), as well as the pool and the grounds outside are so well kept and spotless. And huge! Little touches like the amazing sound system, the on-site laundry services, all of the kitchen amenities, and the bikes in the garage just make you feel even more at home. And the beautiful porches both upstairs and downstairs are so perfect for relaxing. I enjoyed my coffee every morning on the upstairs balcony with a view of the water. The house is also on such a beautiful and quiet block only steps away from the beach, with the occasional deer families stopping by the front lawn. We just had the most fantastic and memorable few days on Shelter Island, and this house was integral to our good time. Andrew was also always so responsive and helpful in answering all of my questions both before our stay, and during. I can’t thank you enough for sharing your beautiful home with us Andrew! We will be back!

Scenic tranquility

5 of 5
We have enjoyed a wonderful week here with our 5 year old. The cottage was charming, well stocked, and impeccably clean. We loved the mix of rustic and contemporary design. The location is perfect for taking a break from the hustle and bustle - the cottage provides great privacy, being situated well off the road, facing a huge lawn and a babbling brook. The listing photos, as beautiful as they are, do not do justice to the relaxing effect of taking in the fresh air and the beautiful views while sitting out on the terrace. Our son loved playing in the stream and finding his way through the grass "maze". The owners were absolutely delightful and extremely helpful with restaurant suggestions and the like. There's no shortage of nearby great eateries, with downtown Woodstock a short walk away, and Saugerties within a 15 minute drive. The area is a nature lover's delight, with hiking trails starting directly across the stream from the property. Opus 40 is a great nearby attraction for the architecturally inclined and those with an appreciation for enormousness and human endeavor. Thank you, Nin and Ralf, for such an enjoyable getaway!

Perfect Depending on Your Needs

4 of 5
We rented this property for a Family Reunion at Niagara Falls. The property was perfect for us, just 45 minutes or so from the Falls and a little over an hour from Old Fort Niagara. The most breathtaking aspect of this property is the location on the eastern shore of Lake Erie, meaning every night we had a beautiful sunset out over the water. Even the couple nights where inclement weather rolled in, being able to sit down at the beach and watch the thunderstorm roll across the lake in our direction was a treat. The beach area is incredibly private and very spacious for most family needs. We had a large bonfire down by the water one clear night and the beach is loaded with drift wood and other debris that was able to easily keep a relatively large fire going for hours and hours, as well as unlimited amounts of smooth lake stones on the shore. The kids loved playing in the water and for the older kids and adults, the beach is rough and painful rock for the first 10-15 feet out into the water, which then gives way to pure slab rock (slippery with algae, but not course or rough), followed by soft sand. And you can walk out into the water quite a bit without much of an issue. Easily a good 100 feet or so. Water temps were nice this time of year, even when the air was chilly. The property itself is just what it says it is. An old farm house that has been renovated and updated with a lot of upgrades. Kitchen was more than adequate for our needs, dining room was nice for dinner, and the living room was a nice place to relax with a large couch perfect for afternoon naps. Now for the negatives. WIFI is terrible. Had to literally reset the box every 15-20 minutes which made using it beyond frustrating. The TV in the Master bedroom is non-functional with no Direct TV, leaving just one option in the living room downstairs. Half the windows are lacking screens, which means opening the windows at night to hear the ocean like waves crashing meant droves of bugs in the room each night/morning. The sliding glass door lacks blinds, which can create an uneasy feeling as the room can easily be seen from the grounds at night. The property is situated on a bluff about 30 feet straight down to the water, so be careful with kids near the edge. None of the bathrooms or bedrooms have locking doors so the downstairs bathroom was unusable with small kids running around. Finally, the outside of the property is covered in massive spiders, but it is a lake house.
