We had an amazing weekend at the cottage. The property is even more stunning in person than it is in the pictures and it's hard not to feel relaxed upon arrival. The views of the Hudson and surrounding woods are expansive and the sunsets are as pretty as advertised.
The owners clearly spared no expense in building the property- it's incredibly cozy with high-end features that provide the perks of a luxury hotel with the comforts and space that a home affords. My husband and I were continually surprised, as well, by the attention to detail. Every time we started to say "It would be great if they had a...", we found that item or amenity. This includes many items for children (we were traveling with a toddler and a newborn) like a sheet and comforter set for the pack n play, plastic utensils, a booster seat, and even a "Cottage at Sunset" robe in toddler size to match the adult robes. Everything was clearly and charmingly labeled (in handwritten chalkboard signs) and the book of suggested activities and instructions was comprehensive and easy to follow. We took advantage of many of these suggestions, including Otto Market for groceries, Hudson for the Saturday farmer's market, Griegg's Farm for produce picking, and a couple others.
Unlike rentals we've used in the past that are slightly unwelcoming with "please don't touch" signs and other messages that make it clear they don't want you to feel too at home, the owners manage to send across the opposite message, encouraging guests to explore the home decorations and furnishings, to use as much or all of the firewood and animal feed provided, to explore the property and use plastic dishware/wineglasses for picnics outside or by the pool. This goes a long way to making guests feel like they are not just borrowing a place for a short stay but instead living there for a period of time. Clearly they have a knack for hospitality- we've already booked our next stay at the cottage for the fall. The only thing we could've asked for was an additional bedroom so we could continue to use the property as the kids grow and require more space, but for now the cottage still felt more than spacious enough to accommodate two adults and two small kids.
