Spacious property in a quiet and secure location

4 of 5
We rented this property for a six week stay across the summer. The things we liked were: The room sizes are generous, the apartment is modern, the TV/wifi/general technology etc were easy to use and didn't cause any problems, and we felt completely safe in the location. There is a supermarket within walking distance (5-10 mins), and some other general shops and stores, pharmacy, bank, takeout places etc - pretty much everything you would need is nearby. It's about 35 minutes into the centre of Manhattan on the subway. Also the owner is very nice! The reasons we didn't give it five stars are: There are a lot of the owner's possessions still at the apartment, and it felt somewhat cluttered as a result. There is storage space for your things, and perhaps it mattered more to us because we were there for 6 weeks (and had quite a lot of stuff), but we felt as if we were knocking into piles of books and bits and pieces a lot of the time. The oven doesn't work - although the owner has put a counter-top oven in the kitchen to substitute it, so you do have oven usage. But I wasn't confident to use it because I didn't know how to. Again if you are going to be eating out it won't be a problem, but in six weeks we cooked at home quite a lot, and I enjoy baking. That said, the stove top works fine and there is a microwave. There are a number of plants on the window ledges, which are not a problem per se, but I felt a definite obligation to try and keep them alive while I was there!! I am a hopeless gardener and I kill everything, so this wasn't great for the plants, and I felt terrible watching them fade away under my touch... The walk to the subway station is do-able, but it's a little bit longer than would be ideal. It's around 15 minutes. The nearest subway station is 67 Avenue which is on the R and M lines. Straightforward journey into the city.

Safe, friendly neighborhood. Close to major sights

4 of 5
My friends and I took our four teenage daughters to NYC for the weekend. With a part of eight we wanted someplace that was economical but not too far from the sights. The owner, David, and his staff were very accommodating. When we arrived, Andrew took us on a tour of the neighborhood and showed us where the nearest subway stations were (both within a 10 minute walk). The neighborhood itself is largely families of Dominican descent and most businesses are locally owned. We felt very safe walking around day or night. We could be in Times Square within a half hour using the A train.

great apartment

5 of 5
David was a great guy. We rented this apt after Hurricane Sandy for i think it was 5 nights..... 3 adults and 2 dogs... we were so overwhelmed with cleaning out our destroyed house... it was a pleasure to come back here in the evenings, take a hot shower, and prepare dinner... wish we could have stayed longer !!
