Great place to stay

5 of 5
We split our 11 day New York stay by spending 5 days in a hotel and 6 days in an apartment. We chose this apartment due to the location as we know Soho well. The owner was super quick to reply to all our questions and very helpful in supplying an enormous amount of information on where to eat , what to see and great suggestions for the theatre which we would not have known on our own ...for example (Café Carlyle) The location is perfect for us as it is one minute away from the shops on Broadway, two minutes from a great supermarket, Morton Williams, selling everything from GF products to ready made foods and really close to all the various metro stations that one would need in touring New York. We had previously stayed at the Waldorf and although it is close to museums and art galleries, the vibe in Soho, the West Village and Chelsea is much more interesting to us as are the restaurants and cafes. One can even walk to the new Whitney, which is fabulous. The apartment is spotless, very well appointed, quiet and every detail is thought through, even hair tongs which was great as my Australian ones didn’t work with the voltage change. Coffee machines, tea and other ingredients are available in the cupboards. Any queries again were answered within minutes. We enjoyed the fact that there were two bathrooms, one with a shower and one with a bath which is fairly hard to find in apartments in general. Hanging space, cupboards and storage was sufficient for a short stay apartment. We were very happy with our choice and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Our NYC "home"

5 of 5
We had the most wonderful time in the City--I hadn't been back since 2001 and my sister not since the 70's. Almost overnight, the Hideaway garden apartment became our home in the City, not some generic hotel room or someone's space in their apartment. I would never have even considered Harlem in the past; now Harlem is top of the list for us. We felt very secure in the apartment, on the streets and in the subway. Dennis lives upstairs and was always available to us, but never intrusive in any way, gave us an excellent orientation and a box full of "sightseer" info and maps. The renovated brownstone was so well done--the last word in mod cons, but with so much character left from 1903, say. I don't know how our experience could have been improved. We will be returning the NYC next year and have booked the "garden" for next years' dates. Thank you, Dennis. PS--don't miss the Harlem Shake--best chili ever!
