WOW! this place is sublime.

5 of 5
Tucked away on a quiet side street just half a block from the East Village excitement and Tompkins Sq Park. This was the nicest place we have ever stayed and its location is nothing short of fantastic. (The East Village is more glam than grit these days) Unlike the noise and density of the other parts of the city, we slept in comfort and quiet with the windows opened on a cool fall night. The modern conversion of this former synagogue into a spacious home reminded me of the Mandarin Oriental in Prague. Everything is sleek and comfortable yet you can see the evidence of its former life. This place is dialed in for entertaining with its huge kitchen and dining space overlooking one of many balconies. We had a dinner party for 15 and it was the highlight of the trip. The only bad thing about this house is you may be tempted to stay in and not see the city! When you do you can walk to so many great places to dine and shop. Short walks to Soho or Union Square or the West Village. After a day of hustle and bustle in the city it was always great to return here to the rooftop hot tub. There is person available to help or assist with everything as well, which was super convenient. We will be back!

Easy in New York!

5 of 5
Excellent stay with a hospitable host and great accommodation. The area itself (Harlem) is quiet, interesting in a racial mix perspective, and seems to be quite safe. It has access to good restaurants and general facilities, public transport to downtown Manhattan is relatively easy, inexpensive and, outside of peak business hours, quick. Your host (Dennis) gives good advice as to the area and what it has to offer.

Great place to relax after a long day in the City.

4 of 5
Ten of us ladies spent 4 nights and 5 days here. We met Ruth & Henry and both were helpful and informative about transportation back and forth to the City. Luckily we never got lost and didn't have to send out an SOS to Henry! Returning every night to this relaxing and quiet neighborhood was awesome. It really is just about 15-20 minutes from the City by bus. It's a great place to stay and I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to stay in the busy city with all the noise and commotion. Beds were comfortable, kitchen even had basic food staples in the cupboards. Thank you Ruth & Henry for your hospitality and providing a comfortable and safe place for all of us to stay. Hope to return one day.
