Location, location, location!

5 of 5
This is a terrific little apartment in the heart of the West Village... a couple of blocks from the river (and great walking) on one side and three short blocks to the bustle of 7th Avenue on the other. For me, it's hard to imagine a better location in the city (I've been going once or twice a year for fifteen years. I used to stay on the Upper Westside but like the Village much better.) There are four or five great jazz clubs within four blocks, including my fav, the Village Vanguard and Smalls, and the restaurant scene is unbelievable... so many great spots within easy walking distance (Buvette, Fedora, Barbuto, The Little Owl, to name just a few that we tried). There are subway stops on 7th and Ave of the Americas (6th), so it's quick to get anywhere. The apartment itself is small (aren't they all!) but perfectly adequate and well equipped and the owner responded promptly to any issues raised. We'll be back next year!

Really Great Place Overall

4 of 5
This is a great place for a large group to stay. We had 7 people and there was enough room. The trundle beds had bad mattresses but there was a comfortable queen-sized blowup bed that we used. The condo is very nice and well-maintained. There are a LOT of narrow steps coming up to the condo on the inside. The condo is on the 2nd & third floors of the building. The photos show the garden - but there is no access to that from this apartment. The worst thing was the wifi connection. It was awful every day. But - overall, it's a great place to stay. Desmond's next door has great burgers and beer and Penelope's (turn right leaving the building & up 2 blocks) is great for breakfast. Plenty of late-night restaurants.

WOW! this place is sublime.

5 of 5
Tucked away on a quiet side street just half a block from the East Village excitement and Tompkins Sq Park. This was the nicest place we have ever stayed and its location is nothing short of fantastic. (The East Village is more glam than grit these days) Unlike the noise and density of the other parts of the city, we slept in comfort and quiet with the windows opened on a cool fall night. The modern conversion of this former synagogue into a spacious home reminded me of the Mandarin Oriental in Prague. Everything is sleek and comfortable yet you can see the evidence of its former life. This place is dialed in for entertaining with its huge kitchen and dining space overlooking one of many balconies. We had a dinner party for 15 and it was the highlight of the trip. The only bad thing about this house is you may be tempted to stay in and not see the city! When you do you can walk to so many great places to dine and shop. Short walks to Soho or Union Square or the West Village. After a day of hustle and bustle in the city it was always great to return here to the rooftop hot tub. There is person available to help or assist with everything as well, which was super convenient. We will be back!
