                          Recent Harlem Reviews

Great Place in Harlem. Very Close to Subway. Very Convenient to Everything NYC has to offer!

                          5 of 5
My wife and I stayed here and it was perfect. We stayed for 8 nights and it was exactly what we were looking for. It is very close to the subway with access to the ABCD Express trains that are 2 blocks away. You can get to Times Square in 10 Minutes and it takes about 30-45 minutes to get to lower Manhattan (VERY CONVENIENT)! We didn't spend much time in Harlem. All I can say is that we felt safe even at 1am in the morning (there is a police station a block away so that helps too). The apartment was very clean and Yvette (who is the host and owner of the unit) was responsive to whatever we needed. There are 4 other rooms in the building who all rent from Yvette on a daily/weekly basis (the top floor has 3 rooms that all share a bathroom and kitchen and there is a room next to the one we stayed in and it had its own bathroom and kitchen). We never had any contact with these people because we had our own space. She lives downstairs and was there to help but also gave us plenty of space. The shower has a shower curtain and no glass now (no big deal), everything else about the place is depicted in the pictures. The room is nice and spacious and very clean. There is a good pizza place called Custom Pizza that is a half a block away and a 24 hour deli across from that. We really liked the Harlem Shake (2 blocks away) which had GREAT Jerk Chicken and Jerk Fries (if you like that type of thing). Overall this was a great alternative to the hotels we could have stayed at and was much less expensive.

                          A Great Experience

                          5 of 5
We stayed here for 10 days during May. We booked the apartment after reading all the amazingly positive reviews for the place – and they were spot on. After staying the previous week on the East Side - in a more expensive apartment that was the size of a shoe box – to come here was a revelation. The apartment was spacious, spotlessly presented, the host’s attention to detail impressive and there were plenty of added extras including a full kitchen with all mod cons including a dishwasher, a coffee maker (with coffee), a large screen TV, free wi-fi and a private garden that all helped to make our stay relaxed and enjoyable. The owner Don was friendly and the perfect host for we four newbies to New York – he provided us with all the information, directions and tips on what to see that we needed. When one of our party went down with a foot problem and had difficulty walking, Don was soon at the door with a walking stick and contact details for his own family doctor which were greatly appreciated. The apartment is in a great location near the subway, cross town buses, supermarkets and historical sites such as Alexander Hamilton’s (George Washington’s aide-de-camp) home which is now a museum and well worth visiting. The apartment is also close to two great New York experiences - the famous Apollo Theatre (check out amateur night – its something else) and Yankee Stadium – go Yankees! Thanks to Don’s friendliness and generosity, and his beautifully presented apartment - staying here was a great New York experience in itself.

                          Welcoming stay in the city

                          5 of 5
We stayed at Kakuna's place for 2 weeks and felt like home right away. The appartment was spotless clean and had everything we needed (clean cotton towels, sheets, bathroom and kitchen equipment). The appartment is conveniently located 2 steps away from the subway that takes you to the city in 15 minutes. Kakuna and her husband are very welcoming and considerate, I would definitely recommend their appartments!
