              A GREAT STAY

              5 of 5
This was our first trip to New York and after much searching online and research we chose Michael's Apt 1 or Garden Apartment in Harlem. What a great choice we made, everything was made so simple for us, from the first initial contact with Michael regarding our booking to saying goodbye after a great week in New York. The booking process was easy, all done through the HomeAway website with the initial deposit being paid online through their secure website and Michael gave us the choice of paying the remaining balance in cash on arrival or through the website again a couple of days before our arrival. We chose the later so we didn't have to carry more cash with us than was necessary. Our arrival was easy, we texted Michael from JFK after our arrival and he was there to meet us as our car pulled up at the address. The Apartment is exactly as it looks in the photos only much bigger. This apartment has a huge living area for a one bedroom apartment, with comfortable chairs to relax in after a long flight. The kitchen if fully equipped and the laundry is located in the basement. The access for this apartment is very easy and useful for someone who may have mobility issues, their are no flights of stairs to walk up, just a few stairs to walk down to get to the Apartment level. The Apartment is also located at the rear of the building so there is no street noise. A few steps from the front door is the entrance to the Subway which gets you downtown in 15 to 20 mins on either the express or local trains. Michael gave us good advice on how to purchase our weekly travel pass via the ticket machines and we were set. We spend our week visiting all the usual sights in New York and it was always nice to come home to the peace of our apartment and just put together something simple for dinner. Michael has done a wonderful job in putting together a folder of information about the local area, where is good to eat, where the shops are, a mini walking tour, and lots of menus from the local eateries just in case you may want to order in after a long day of sightseeing. Michael also provided us with a local phone in the apartment to make ordering in very easy. Harlem or Sugar Hill is not the first place you think of staying when going to New York, but we found it really interesting and all the people were friendly and helpful we'd certainly stay in this apartment again. Thanks Michael for a great stay!

              A GREAT EXPERIENCE

              5 of 5
We stayed here for 10 days during May. We booked the apartment after reading all the amazingly positive reviews for the place – and they were spot on. After staying the previous week on the East Side - in a more expensive apartment that was the size of a shoe box – to come here was a revelation. The apartment was spacious, spotlessly presented, the host’s attention to detail impressive and there were plenty of added extras including a full kitchen with all mod cons including a dishwasher, a coffee maker (with coffee), a large screen TV, free wi-fi and a private garden that all helped to make our stay relaxed and enjoyable. The owner Don was friendly and the perfect host for we four newbies to New York – he provided us with all the information, directions and tips on what to see that we needed. When one of our party went down with a foot problem and had difficulty walking, Don was soon at the door with a walking stick and contact details for his own family doctor which were greatly appreciated. The apartment is in a great location near the subway, cross town buses, supermarkets and historical sites such as Alexander Hamilton’s (George Washington’s aide-de-camp) home which is now a museum and well worth visiting. The apartment is also close to two great New York experiences - the famous Apollo Theatre (check out amateur night – its something else) and Yankee Stadium – go Yankees! Thanks to Don’s friendliness and generosity, and his beautifully presented apartment - staying here was a great New York experience in itself.

              NICE HOUSE AND WARM WELCOME

              5 of 5
We were a party of four and found the house in a very good condition, exactly as described in the announcement. The metro station is a short walking distance away and getting to downtown using A train will take you less than half an hour (including the waiting time). The area is nice, the house is very well equipped and Laura is a very helpful and nice host. We enjoyed our stay and would certainly consider returning.
