                  Excellent escape

                  5 of 5
My husband and I rented this house for a mini honeymoon right after our wedding. We were looking for someplace quiet and relaxing and found exactly that! The owners were excellent and responsive to emails and the house is spotlessly clean! The kitchen had everything you may need and we enjoyed a lot of meals there. Unfortunately we had a rainy week and missed out on using the outdoor patio and grill as much as we would have liked, but the indoor fireplace was put to good use. We had deer pass through the backyard and had a clear night of stargazing and saw the most amazing meteor! The house is in a great location - secluded but with neighbors down the road, also close to many of the areas we were familiar with from weekend trips (and close to grocery shopping in Margaretville). We spent a day at the Emerson Spa, dinner at Peekamoose, explored Delhi (excellent lunch at Blue Bee Café), took a ride on the Arkville train, visited the Pakatakan Farmers market and headed over to the Windham area for horseback riding (Rough Riders Ranch). This was our first week long vacation in 10 years and I think we are both convinced to do it more often! We cannot wait to return, hopefully soon!

                  a lovely place

                  4 of 5
My husband and I rented this lovely farmhouse for a long awaited couple's getaway. We found the place absolutely charming. very original, though recently updated. the kitchen was fully stocked, even found spices and condiments there to use, if desired. the living room area was great, well lit, two confy couches and a great fireplace with two stacks of firewood by the door ready to use. The master bedroom was very big but cozy, and the bed was very confortable. A couple of warnings though...If you are not familiar with original farmhouses, they are old,and some things such as sufficient hot water, can be a challenge. This was the case here...but with this in mind , you can still take a nice shower or bath, just don't expect to linger under the running water, or it will turn cold. The clawfoot tub is awesome for bathiing, but makes showering a bit awkward. The towels were very clean though a bit worn, and mismatched. Also, there was an overheating issue with the downstairs area, but it may have been resolved. We just shut off the thermostat and opened windows for a few hours. The only other warning comment is that the stairs to go up have no banister, and the wooden steps are a little uneven, they threw us off a bit when we first used them, especially with bare feet. By the next day we were going up like pros though. May not be too suitable for small children . There was a nice stream running along the forn of the house, next to the road, and a very nice back yard with a fire pit. We were not able to use the front patio . The area in general, was in between seasons, and the rainy weather was no help, so not as pretty as i imagined it, but the people we met were super friendly, and we had some fine meals. Jason, from Pine Hollow lodging, was incredibly helpful and readily available by email to answer any questions or help us out with anything, even though he was out of the country at the time we stayed. Felt like we were renting form a good friend! would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet, quaint , romantic getaway.
