My boyfriend and I were looking for an affordable escape from Brooklyn somewhere near the Catskills when we came across the listing for Lazy Brook Farm. Having two dogs and a modest budget, this property seemed ideal. It was only upon arrival that we realized how little justice the pictures and description of the property do it! The house is beyond charming and has a modern cabin feel. It smells like pine, and at night you fall asleep to the very audible stream (perhaps the feature I loved most). The kitchen is well stocked and has most any utensil you would need to cook or grill--which we did every night after visiting the awesome farm stand a few miles away. (Go there. They have meat whose name they knew, wild-foraged mushrooms, eggs with feathers still on them, etc.) I mention this because of the home's close proximity to awesome food, beautiful swimming holes, and the trailhead to one of the best hikes in the Catskills. Lastly on the house, the fire pit area is fantastic and is a great place to lounge day or night (and WiFi works out there if you need).
I find it very worth noting that Jason, the property manager, is a totally awesome guy. He was so helpful during our planning (traveling with two pit bulls can be tricky, and people can be very biased--but not Jason, who even brought his dog by in case they wanted to play). Also, he was always available by phone, gave us good tips as to hikes, restaurants and online resources, AND even came by the property one morning to drop off hiking poles for me to borrow when I realized I left mine at home! Nicest guy ever.
We cannot wait to go back.
