Chic rustic retreat

5 of 5
I've rented homes in upstate NY many times and Jeff's home was by far the most clean, comfortable and idyllic I've come across. You can tell that he put a lot of thought and care into restoring and decorating the home, and there are also some really creative touches. The downstairs bathroom is particularly memorable. I also really appreciated all the art in the house. The bedrooms were cozy and the bed was super comfortable. A lot of times I have trouble sleeping without 'city noises' but the gurgling stream outside put me right to sleep :) The kitchen was great for hanging out and it was clearly designed for some serious cooking. It was a chilly Easter weekend so we spent more time hanging out by the wood stove than exploring. I'm looking forward to getting back to Delhi soon to check out the area more. And thank you for the bubbles, Jeff! Such a warm welcome from the caretaker too. I highly recommend the Bear Hill house.

Best New Years Ever!

5 of 5
Wow, this place is great! We arrived to a foot of fresh snow and the mountains we're spectacularly beautiful. The cabin itself is very private and cozy and clean (there was a bit of clutter in the basement near the laundry machines, but nowhere near intrusive or offensive—other than that the linens, dishes, and main spaces/bedrooms were all very clean!), and coordinating with the owner for arrival/payment/access was a snap. Slept 6 of us (three couples) comfortably, and the kitchen had sufficient supplies for cooking a wide variety of breakfasts, lunches and dinners. We had a fire going all weekend in the amazing soap stone woodstove/fireplace, perfect to warm up with after sledding down the hillside. The views were beautiful and wide open, and we definitely want to come back in the warmer months when there are leaves on the trees and we can really walk the grounds and enjoy our morning coffee in the sun on the wrap around deck. Being wintertime, we didn't seek out too many activities off the property, but there is a well stocked grocery store nearby to re-up on supplies and firewood, and a cute downtown area if you like to dine out or go shopping/antiquing. All in all 10/10, we will definitely return! To the owner—thanks so much for a great weekend!!
