Great weekend, great house, very attentive owner.

The owner, Jody, was incredibly attentive to our needs, although we had few, since he takes very good care of all the systems and amenities. The property was as described if not better, which is to say it wasn't exaggerated for the ad. We had a great time using everything in the game room, the outdoor fireplaces, the yard, volleyball, batting cage, trampoline, dock, etc. Great place for several families, with kids of all ages. Great venue for people who want to be active, or just to hang out - we did as much of both as we could. We only wish we could have stayed longer. We'd note that the folks at the neighboring marina were very friendly, as was the local police officer who stopped by to introduce himself and check that everything was okay. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. Even though everything else was great, the commercial ice machine alone was worth it! Just be aware that part of your contract is to bring certain essentials, so pay attention to the details and you won't go wrong.

      Best Weekend Getaway from Manhattan

      5 of 5
I've traveled the world and stayed at some fabulous places. I'd rank Windrift Hall up near the top of my favorite places ever. The house was private, yet still close to downtown Hudson. There were 9 of us with only one car, but we were still able to easily get to and from Hudson via taxi service that was quick and convenient. Two of us drove our personal car to Windrift Hall and the other seven took the Amtrak train from Penn Station (New York); the train ride is only two hours (roundtrip train fare is around $75). The train arrives in the heart of the historic area of downtown Hudson. Cabs are well aware of the train arrival times so they're sitting there waiting to pick up passengers. The cab fare from the train station to the house is around $40. Windrift Hall's kitchen is a delight for anyone who loves to cook and bake. The kitchen is camera ready for a magazine shoot. A Viking range and other great appliances (Viking refrigerator, dishwasher, KitchenAid mixer, etc.) make cooking and baking a delight in the house. One of my friends is an accomplished pianist so we were able to enjoy hours of beautiful music he played on the stunning Steinway piano in the living room. Other great amenities: Soaking tub in the upstairs bathroom, several working fireplaces throughout the house, an informal (kitchen) dining table as well as a formal (living) dining table, a Bose sound system, etc. Assuming the owner's will allow us, we will definitely be back at Windrift Hall in the very near future!
