Perfect Family Summer Getaway

5 of 5
My family and I rent a cabin almost every summer, usually in Woodstock. This was our first trip to Copake, didn't know what to expect. It Was Gorgeous. Better than the photos. The house itself is incredibly well stocked - from kitchen utensils, pots, condiments, spices, to bathroom towels, detergent, toilet paper, etc. We have found most rentals skimp on these items. My husband is a serious cook and was so pleased with the kitchen space. The living room and kitchen are bright and airy with soaring ceilings, modern, pretty furniture in great condition - nothing shabby, tv/cable/internet/cd system with great cd collection. Room is lined with large windows overlooking the deck. The Deck! Lots of privacy. Flower troughs spilling over with blooms, great deck chairs, chaise lounge on lower deck level where we enjoyed cocktails at sunset, umbrella and dining table where we had every meal, all overlooking the lake. The Lake! The views are incredible, you are literally on top of the lake, steps leading down beautifully yet naturally landscaped grounds, down to your private, small dock. 2 kayaks and a large rowboat were supplied. You can boat around the entire island, absolutely serene and lovely. The entire family took the rowboat just across the water to a small white sand beach, had the whole place to ourselves, swam and and sunned. The area is very quiet and peaceful, no rowdy vacationers (a few motorboats, but rare and not disruptive). The surrounding countryside is gorgeous, timeless. We hiked up to Bash Bish Falls and swam beneath the waterfall, had picnic at the top of the mountain, went to farmers markets and sheep farms, bought locally grown veggies and fruits, even had the nicest grass-fed beef farmer who actually meet us in person in town to sell us his beef for our bbq that evening! Took our kids to a fantastic, classic drive in movie theater about a half hour away, took a short drive to beautiful Hudson, a quintessential old New York town on the Hudson River. I can go on and on. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, or a fun filled family vacation, this was probably the best trip we've ever had upstate. Also, Tony was so gracious, calling me back immediately after I texted about Wi-Fi problems. Very considerate and personable owners, couldn't have asked for a nicer experience. Thank you so much, Tony! We'd love to come back!

Only wish we could have stayed and relaxed longer!

5 of 5
Some friends and I spent a long weekend at this cabin to get away from the hustle and bustle of NYC. We prepared for a weekend of rain (the house has a ton of board games!) but ended up getting lucky and getting a sunny and hot weekend! The house was wonderful and equipped with everything we needed; towels, linens, kitchen stuff, etc. The decor was nothing special, but perfectly functional, and the redone kitchen is absolutely lovely! The view of the lake from the house is phenomenal! It felt like we had practically a 180 degree view in front of us at all times. We spent most of our time out on the deck and docks, and enjoyed walking around the neighborhood in the evening. We fell in love with the Oakhurst diner in nearby Millerton and ended up having breakfast there when we weren’t making it at the house. Millerton also has a ton of great antique shops and other little stores. We also spent an afternoon hiking at Bash Bish Falls, which is beautiful waterfall only a short car ride/hike away. My friends also used the kayak one afternoon which they absolutely loved! At night we built campfires in the house's fire pit and roasted marshmallows and told ghost stories. My one note to avid lake swimmers such as myself, is that it’s a good idea to bring a floatie if you plan on swimming. The water is a little mucky right next to the dock, so it was nice to be able to float out a bit beyond the dock without having to swim through the muck. The public beach is right across the way, so it was also fun to be able to swim over in the warm and refreshing water and lay on the floating raft there. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and only wish we could have stayed longer! It was quiet, clean, beautiful, and relaxing… everything we wanted. My friends and I spoke the day after we got back and agreed that our bodies may be back in the city, but our minds are still back on lovely Robinson Pond in Copake.
