                Great House, Great Location

                4 of 5
This was a wonderful place to stay for a week. It is accurately described as a beautifully renovated home. The house was spotless and well-maintained. It's in a great location, an easy walk to downtown Clayton, shops, restaurants, and the River. It has a lovely deck (with a bit of a view of the main channel of the River) with propane grill, and a nice kitchen. A few more comfortable outdoor chairs would be a welcome addition to the deck. When we arrived, neither the cable TV or the internet access worked. Phone calls to the rental office produced the desired results: TV was restored by the next day, and the internet service a day or so later. It was a minor annoyance, but handled well. For the weekend when we first arrived, we were 4 couples in town for a wedding, so all bedrooms were in use. On the second floor, that meant 6 people using one bathroom. Though there is plenty of unused wall space in the bathroom, there is only one towel rack, barely big enough for 2 towels, meaning everyone had to take their wet bath towels to their rooms, and there were no places to hang them in the rooms. We suggest more towel racks in the bathroom or else in the bedrooms. The other amenity that we missed was light to read by in the bedrooms (The living room could use some brighter light by the couches as well.) A high ceiling fixture in the middle of the room does not provide sufficient light for reading in bed, something my husband and I enjoy every night. We went out and purchased two flashlights to read by! The addition of towel bars in the upstairs bath and lights at either side of the beds, either wall-mounted or on a small night table (which would be a handy addition as well) would unquestionably make my rating 5-star. We found Clayton to be a charming town. We were there for a wedding on Grindstone Island, and that occupied our weekend, but Clayton is full of wonderful things that we enjoyed in the following days. Most special were the Antique Boat Museum and the Island Boat Tour around the River, stopping at Boldt Castle. Restaurants we enjoyed were Bella, the newly opened Johnston House, and The Koffee Kove for breakfast a number of times.

                Family loved this!

                5 of 5
My adult siblings and parents stayed at this home near Clayton several years ago (2011, if my memory serves me correctly, but VRBO wouldn't allow me to use that date). It's an easy boat ride from Clayton and nearly right across the channel from a boat ramp where my husband and I stored our jet skis' trailer for a small fee. We have been camping in the Thousand Islands for several decades and wanted to class it up after so long tenting. The view of the channel can't be beat, and there's plenty of dock space for boats, jet skis, etc. and still enough room to swim off the dock. It was great to be able to warm up by the fire in the evenings. The kitchen was well-stocked with enough pots/utensils for some gourmet cooking each day. The proprietors were wonderful, as well! The island is nice and quiet. My brother, father, and I went for a swim around the island, which was peaceful. Probably the BEST part of the house, though, is the fact that it's on an unsung pike fishing spot. We're all fishers, and the dwindling fishing over the past 15 years has gotten us down quite a bit. We searched high and low-- headed up to Boldt Castle, tried Mary's Island, etc.-- and ended up finding that the best place to catch some decent-sized northerns was right out the front of the house, out about 100 yards and drifting down with the current. Excellent!
