Spacious Cottage, Tranquil and Secluded

5 of 5
Five to seven minutes by car to the center of Woodstock, yet. cottage is surrounded by forest and meadow, which one views through two wonderful floor to ceiling picture windows running the length of one-side of the cottage. And I had my own private zoo. Since I was working on a writing project, I spent a lot of time in the cottage gazing out: White-tailed deer, and one special doe and fawn who were nourished by the plants just outside the picture window. Wild turkeys. A bear--a rare sighting--ambled up the driveway. And a magnificent, auburn, red fox loped across the driveway and through the meadow. Perfect for a romantic get-away or a hide-away for a writing / arts project. Excellent appliances--ceramic top stove, large frig, microwave, all kinds of coffee makers, blender, toaster, etc. Equipped for light cooking. ....And a comfortable mattress. I stayed two months and enjoyed the serenity of the cottage and the life of Woodstock and the surrounding area--so much to see.

The Barn is extremely cool. Great for gathering.

The site is really peaceful and private. The main room has great views out toward the setting sun - a lovely way to end each day. The Barn itself is wonderfully rustic with all the charm of a barn. The bedrooms are all unique and interesting. Great for families and big groups of friends. A truly wonderful get away spot. Nearby Roxbury is small but charming with Kirkside Park as an added great find.

Great stay in large, comfy, arty home

5 of 5
We rented the house for a month so that we could spend a number of long weekends there and it was just perfect for us. It's incredibly comfortable and filled with art. There are many different living room areas, so tons of places to curl up with a good book (and lots of good books on hand to read). There's even a napping bed on the first floor, which we used quite a bit. It would be a great place to go with two couples or two generations of family -- lots of room to spread out and feel privacy (the two main bedrooms are a ways from each other and each has its own full bath). In the back, there's a huge deck, a beautiful lawn, and a field of wildflowers. It feels very private and bucolic. The kitchen is roomy and well-stocked (though there's a large toaster oven in lieu of an oven so don't plan to do a lot of baking). Nearly every night, we cooked meats and vegetables we had bought at the many farmers markets and farm stands in the area. We usually used the charcoal grill (and range as necessary) and it's some of the best vacation food I've ever had. The owners were great to work with and they provide a comprehensive welcome book with advice about area food shopping, outdoor activities (we went on some lovely hikes) and more. We miss the house but I'm sure we'll be back.
