Excellent space for a big group

4 of 5
I came up here with 100 people for the weekend and we had an incredible time -- the house is AWESOME. It was an excellent space for a big group, with multiple kitchens and tons of cookware that made it easy for us to cook a pot of chili for 100 people. There was definitely enough space for people to sleep in all the beds and snuggle up on air mattresses/sleeping bags, and a beautiful space outdoors. This property "has wifi" but it definitely doesn't work. I called the owner during our stay to ask about it (he was very responsive) and confirmed that because it's so far away the internet isn't exactly "fast" -- but for us it was essentially nonexistent. I think my emails came through maybe once during the weekend, but honestly it was better that way because nobody was on their phones or computers. Heating on the ground floor isn't great, and we tried turning on the kerosene heater in the basement/night club space, but it got really smokey so we didn't use it. Hot water was spotty at best, but we made it work. Overall we had such a great time that those things didn't really matter. It's a fun space and the area surrounding is beautiful. Working with Jessica and Karen was great -- super responsive and immensely helpful. Made the rental process very easy.

Ideal Destination for Intimate Gatherings

5 of 5
I wanted to organize a trip for 16 adults and 10 children, and was hard-pressed to find a house that accommodate such a large group, in an intimate setting. While the barn does not in fact hold that many, it was wonderful to find out that there are neighboring properties which can be rented in combination with The Barn. So we were able to rent The Barn, in addition to the house next door (beautiful in its own right), and create the intimate weekend I had imagined, with a larger group. It worked like a charm! On top of this, I was also looking to have catered meals prepared onsite, and The Barn came through with flying colors in this category as well. Jodi Cummings is the house's resident private chef who, you can hire as an option to cook fabulous meals. Being tied to a local, high-quality livestock farm, Jodi was able to source very high-quality meats for our meals, at a very reasonable price. Her cooking was perfect for the setting: wholesome, fresh ingredients, restaurant quality, and then some. Jodi impressed me as the kind of chef who could cater to almost any taste. And with her assistant present for our dinners, cleanup was taken care of. The barn itself was as beautiful, and more so, than the photos suggest. The owners clearly have excellent taste, and put a lot of energy into a decor that is perfect for the upstate setting. If design is important to you, The Barn will not disappoint. Our group also took advantage of the airstream on the property, and it was surprisingly comfortable, even in the cold weather. Friends of ours stayed in the camper with their 3 year-old son, and were really happy with their experience. Our group took full advantage of the sweeping front lawn, the fire pit, the *huge* circular hammock, and we really just had a perfect weekend. I've rented *many* places upstate, and The Barn is now at the top of my list. Enjoy!

Wonderful place to stay, two years in a row!

5 of 5
I have a core group of friends that I've known for decades and we have spread ourselves around the Northeast, not allowing for us to see each other nearly as much as we should. Some of us are married, have children, etc, and Spruce Lake Farm provides us an exceptional place in a quiet setting to come back together and enjoy a long weekend. Both years we have visited in November and it has snowed the perfect amount to create an even more ideal setting that still allows for outdoor activities. The house itself easily accommodates us all, providing places to steal away and read or recharge with a nap if needed. The fireplaces and outdoor fire pit provide the perfect settings for cocktail hours and hot chocolate and could not be more comfortable. Adam is very easy to work with and responds promptly to email should any issues arise. We are definitely looking forward to a third consecutive stay at Spruce Lake Farm in 2015!
