Peace and Quiet Abounds!

5 of 5
I'd start by saying if HomeAway allowed 6 stars...I'd give it here. We have rented many places over the years, and we try very hard to find places where our family can spend an entire week together and get away from the craziness. This is the family winner by far. The accommodations were fabulous...lots of room for everyone to stretch out in quiet if they wanted, or assemble en mass to enjoy cook outs on the grill or twice over campfires at lakeside. My wife, the gourmet cook found just about every utensil, appliance or convenience she needed to wow the kids and grandkids at meal time. The old log portion of the home is just so cozy, and everyone loved spending time there doing puzzles, playing cards, or just reading. The best part of our week was; even though there are two TV's of ample size and HD quality...we only saw about 1/2 hour of TV the entire time...we just didn't need it with all the things to do. The owner is quite a distance, so the manager provided great help when we needed it. Heinz is a super nice guy. Amy had the house clean and ready for us all, so we tried to reward her by cleaning the house better than we found it. Thanks Amy. If you are looking for a place to rekindle family ties, get away from the lights, traffic, noise and stress, I highly recommend Spruce Lake Farm. NOW is a great time to go...the leaves are just turing colors and will be spectacular in about two weeks. Thanks Adam for a wonderful and memorable week.

Unbelievably big house with something for everyone.

4 of 5
We just returned from a weekend at the "mansion." We were a group of 27 family members three generations (15 grandkids ages 5-25). Everyone had a great time. The game room was wonderful and we actually ended up dancing under the disco ball on the dance floor. The indoor pool was a huge plus, and all the kids had a blast. The reasons I'm not giving it 5 stars are: there's no central air, and only 4 of the 16 bedrooms have air conditioning; none of the bathrooms upstairs had any towel racks or hooks to hang your towels on; The oversized deck only had one table to seat 6 (and it was rusty) and the deck chairs are those old chalky white plastic ones; there is absolutely no artwork (or photos) of any kind on any wall in the house and the bedrooms didn't have any nightstands or lamps. It really shouldn't be described as a mansion because it isn't. It's just a GIGANTIC house.

Gorgeous stay in a truly special place.

We enjoyed impeccable hospitality during our stay. The grounds are wonderful and the house is every bit as beautiful as the photos would suggest. In the morning, we enjoyed gourmet breakfast and tea from Spillian's kitchen. We spent afternoons and evenings exploring the Catskills based on Mark's expert knowledge of the area. We only rented a suite (w/ private bathroom) rather than the whole home, but I would recommend this place to absolutely anyone- especially those looking for a special venue in which to hold a retreat, gathering, or reunion of any kind.
