A wonderful house in g great location

5 of 5
This is a lovely, well equipped and spacious house. Huge lawns front and back. I had a big stare down with a huge buck early one morning, and I learned that deer don't appreciate eye contact! Modern kitchen, fully equipped. On top of hill looking toward Windham Mountain, about 1.2 miles from the town. On bottom of RT 32 in Cairo, near I87, sits a wonderful Hannaford for stocking up, with good markets in the town for quick shops -- plus a fabulous, reasonably-priced French restaurant. Windham is the nicest town in the upper Catskills, with relatively few empty storefronts and a good array of restaurants and shops, including a performing arts center, an old-fashioned hardware store and a bakery. Visit Prattsville and see what Irene did to the town and Schoharie Creek. If you are skiing it would be a perfect house, but go with family or friends to make it worth it. Easy to cook and dine-in to avoid eating out if you like. The owners are very responsive to any small complaint, and even delivered a blue ray player when the old DVD unit died. Good Wi-Fi so you are never disconnected -- sorry! Only one thing owners should address: HVAC could use some tweaking. the lower level runs much cooler than the upper, and with one thermostat/zone on the top it's can be tricky to get a good balance on both levels. We were there during AC season, and winter may be different. So highly recommended for short or long stay. Hint -- if you are coming up from downstate or NYC area on a Friday evening take the Taconic!
