Brooklyn Apartment

4 of 5
This is a very nice, clean apartment, in a good location for subway and restaurants. There is a small but well equipped kitchen as indicated in the listing description. There were two lights out in the bedroom near the closets and one light out in the kitchen near the microwave. Everything else was in good working order. We did not meet the owner/manager but there was an information packet, maps, take out menus, and other information about the area available, This is a good place for a couple to explore Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Spacious property in a quiet and secure location

4 of 5
We rented this property for a six week stay across the summer. The things we liked were: The room sizes are generous, the apartment is modern, the TV/wifi/general technology etc were easy to use and didn't cause any problems, and we felt completely safe in the location. There is a supermarket within walking distance (5-10 mins), and some other general shops and stores, pharmacy, bank, takeout places etc - pretty much everything you would need is nearby. It's about 35 minutes into the centre of Manhattan on the subway. Also the owner is very nice! The reasons we didn't give it five stars are: There are a lot of the owner's possessions still at the apartment, and it felt somewhat cluttered as a result. There is storage space for your things, and perhaps it mattered more to us because we were there for 6 weeks (and had quite a lot of stuff), but we felt as if we were knocking into piles of books and bits and pieces a lot of the time. The oven doesn't work - although the owner has put a counter-top oven in the kitchen to substitute it, so you do have oven usage. But I wasn't confident to use it because I didn't know how to. Again if you are going to be eating out it won't be a problem, but in six weeks we cooked at home quite a lot, and I enjoy baking. That said, the stove top works fine and there is a microwave. There are a number of plants on the window ledges, which are not a problem per se, but I felt a definite obligation to try and keep them alive while I was there!! I am a hopeless gardener and I kill everything, so this wasn't great for the plants, and I felt terrible watching them fade away under my touch... The walk to the subway station is do-able, but it's a little bit longer than would be ideal. It's around 15 minutes. The nearest subway station is 67 Avenue which is on the R and M lines. Straightforward journey into the city.
