This is a cool, very-good-value apartment in Lefferts Gardens which is well situated for exploring Brooklyn and NYC. The neighbourhood is friendly and for the time being, relatively hipster-free. That said, the local Wholesome Foods market is a bonus, groceries-wise, and the trendier shops and restaurants of Park Slope, on the opposite side of Prospect Park, are a mere subway stop away. The park itself, a haven for joggers and cyclists, is five minutes' walk away and hosts a farmers' market on Saturdays. There's really no reason to stay in Manhattan.
Sylvia and André were perfect hosts, attentive/available yet relaxed. You'll feel like you have your own place. The apartment itself was as advertised - the hosts' painting and photography is a nice touch. The TV does show some local channels, but no cable, while the Wi-Fi worked perfectly. Large, functional kitchen. Sleigh bed in spare room sleeps 6'2" comfortably. One could say that the apartment is a little frayed around the edges - paintwork, etc - but that's also part of its charm, and it was clean everywhere it needed to be, especially bathroom. Our only (minor) criticism is that the ceilings/walls aren't very well insulated against noise, however this isn't a complaint against the hosts/neighbours, who were conscientious at night and in the morning. In other words we got our sleep.
We'd definitely go back!
