I really don't want to write this because I don't want to give up this secret. This is an awesome apartment. I would recommend it to anyone I know who is looking to stay in NYC. At the same time, the owners deserve to have this made public for their hard work of keeping this place in such beautiful condition.
Be prepared for a very diverse and friendly neighborhood. One short block away will get you to Dyre Ave. This area may be a bit concerning to someone who isn't open minded and from way out of town, but the people are all very friendly. I happily walked with my wife and young children up and down this street many times with no concerns at all. There are both buses and elevated subway trains that stop on Dyre Ave. These can be accessed within a few minute walk from the house.
A huge advantage is parking for your vehicle, if you have one. Weekday parking can be a bit limited, though I never had to walk very far. Once evening arrives, the street begins to clear out and you can park right in front of the house. It seems that out of town people like to drive to this neighborhood, park their cars, and then catch the train into Manhattan.
The only downfall which some may find, which is a result of location, is the fact that this house is at the top of the Bronx. Subway rides to lower Manhattan will be 50+ minute depending on where you are going. Coney Island is 2 hours. I didn't consider this a problem at all.
Once again, this is a great apartment and the owners are great people. I would happily stay again and again.
