Enjoyable short vacation

4 of 5
The house was cozy and well maintained. It is quite a large house with atleast 4 good bedrooms. The location is scenic, serene and lovely. The kitchen was very well equipped. There is not much by way of restaurants around the area, so it was good to have a working kitchen. There is beach access from the property and that was a good bonus. The beach has a small playground for kids as well. The owners are very prompt at answering queries and are helpful. They were also receptive to our suggestions for improvement and we hear that some of the amenities in the house, like flooring, have been updated since our stay.

Wonderful Fall Weekend

5 of 5
My family and I found this home and from all the beautiful pictures we decided to reserve for Columbus Day weekend. Every picture was true to what the actual house looked like. From the welcome basket left filled with wine, marshmellows and chocolate as well as everything for the lake ready and waiting to be used. Fishing poles, canoe, kayak, firepit, and even two bicycles with helmets ready to go! The house was clean and plenty of blankets and towels. The indoor gas fireplace was wonderful to sit in front of while playing a board game, which there is one for all ages and interests. We had beautiful weather and enjoyed the dock with a lot of fishing, as well as many trips on the lake in canoe. We ventured out to Woodstock one day about a half hour away, along with Hunter Mountain to check out an Oktoberfest, but we all couldn't wait to get back to the house to fish and roast marshmellows after dinner and then settle down to watch a movie on a huge screen! Along with plenty of movies to choose from, our kids found Play Station, gaming system we do not have, and now is a MUST! We brought our two labradors and walked around Sleepy Hollow quite a bit and met a few neighbors who were all very nice. As you can tell, I cannot say enough about what a wonderful weekend we all had as well as how much we loved this house. Diane and Niles have made their home very comfortable and inviting for guests. We cannot wait to stay again....

Photos don’t do this house justice!

5 of 5
Our extended family group (three generations, 13 people age 10-80s) couldn’t stop ooh-ing and aah-ing. There was plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable, from the basement bunkroom to the six main-floor bedrooms and multiple gathering spaces indoors and out. The ranch-style layout allowed the older folks to enjoy the house completely—a major plus for our family. And five full baths meant there was never a wait. We took full advantage of Sleepy Hollow Lake and the house’s private, well-kept gravel beach. A tree-covered, grassy slope runs down to the lake, with a well-lit wooden pathway as well as a discreet driveway you can use to get to the water. We had four kayaks, a canoe, and plenty of inflatables and pool noodles at our disposal. With weather on the cool side, some of us took a few day trips, including hikes in the Catskills, an architecture tour of Athens, a hang-out in funky Hudson across the river, and a browse through the storied Rodgers Book Barn (a must for used-book lovers). But other family members were happy just reading, playing games, shooting pool, and spending time together in our beautiful temporary home. Nancy did take great care to make sure we’d feel at home. Everything we needed – right down to the bath and beach towels – was there for us. She was a terrific host, never intrusive but always available when we had a question or needed help. For example, when we experienced a brief power outage one night, Nancy talked us calmly through the process of finding candles and flashlights, even though she had lost power too. It was so difficult to tear ourselves away, we’re already comparing calendars in hopes of returning next year!
