Cozy Family-Friendly Spot

4 of 5
The house was cozy and well-maintained but not quite as large as I had pictured. We had 10 people in our group, which was tight. My husband and I slept in the "half bedroom" in the basement, which was not great - small, dank and dark. The best part was access to the community beach, pool and tennis courts, which were all beautiful and not too crowded. The house itself has lakefront access for kayaking, but it's too shallow and weedy to swim right from the property. Great firepit and fireflies!

Photos don’t do this house justice!

5 of 5
Our extended family group (three generations, 13 people age 10-80s) couldn’t stop ooh-ing and aah-ing. There was plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable, from the basement bunkroom to the six main-floor bedrooms and multiple gathering spaces indoors and out. The ranch-style layout allowed the older folks to enjoy the house completely—a major plus for our family. And five full baths meant there was never a wait. We took full advantage of Sleepy Hollow Lake and the house’s private, well-kept gravel beach. A tree-covered, grassy slope runs down to the lake, with a well-lit wooden pathway as well as a discreet driveway you can use to get to the water. We had four kayaks, a canoe, and plenty of inflatables and pool noodles at our disposal. With weather on the cool side, some of us took a few day trips, including hikes in the Catskills, an architecture tour of Athens, a hang-out in funky Hudson across the river, and a browse through the storied Rodgers Book Barn (a must for used-book lovers). But other family members were happy just reading, playing games, shooting pool, and spending time together in our beautiful temporary home. Nancy did take great care to make sure we’d feel at home. Everything we needed – right down to the bath and beach towels – was there for us. She was a terrific host, never intrusive but always available when we had a question or needed help. For example, when we experienced a brief power outage one night, Nancy talked us calmly through the process of finding candles and flashlights, even though she had lost power too. It was so difficult to tear ourselves away, we’re already comparing calendars in hopes of returning next year!

Perfect Lakeside Get Away!

5 of 5
This was the perfect NYC get away. The house was wonderful, tastefully decorated and very comfy and inviting. Diane and Niles thought of everything their guests could need to be comfortable from excellent quality linens and towels to a thoughtfully stocked pantry and well equipped kitchen. The house could comfortably sleep 8 to 10 without it being cramped. And the lake was beyond fabulous. Again Diane and Niles thought of everything, providing a terrific dock, great outdoor furniture, a dreamy hammock, plenty of floaties, a canoe and kayak and even a lakeside fire pit for s'mores! We were very pleased that we could brings our dogs along, they enjoyed the vacation too! It was such a hospitable home that we spent most of our time on the property, next year we'll explore the area more. All in all, we really can't recommend this spot more, it certainly exceeded our expectations and we are planning a return trip next summer.
